Greyhounds sweep MVC Conference Titles for 8th time in a row

The Lisbon Greyhounds are the best in the MVC once again. The girls team had a comfortable win as they tallied 166 points while runner-up Boothbay scored 96.5. On the boys side it was a much closer affiar as the Greyhounds held off a valiant effort from the Hall-Dale Bulldogs as they prevailed 133 to 129.5.

The Greyhound woman tuned up for the Class C state meet with an impressive performance that saw them win 7 individual events plus 2 relays. Lisbon will be one of the favorites to win the Class C title next Saturday.

Lisbon scored 26 points in the relays which included two wins in the 4x800 and 4x400. The Greyhounds ran a seasonal best 10:38.39, which improved the Class C leaders time. No other Class C school has broken 11 minutes this spring. They added another 28 points in the pole vault as they had the only 4 competitors in the event

Almost helping out was a Class C leading time in the 1600m racewalk by Olivia Bulgin, 8:40.04, she was also the runner-up in the 800m. Standout Kayla Angelico won the 300m hurdles in 50.19, just off her best of the year, Angelico also added a win in the javelin throwing 111-9, she is currently the Class C leader in the event.

St Dominic's Marley Bryne was a double winner taking both short sprints (100m/200m). Bryne won the 100m in 13.63, and then added the 200m title 28.06.

On the boys side Lisbon used it's depth to win the MVC title again, the Greyhounds had just one winner, senior Tyler Bard in the 1600m racewalk. Bard the Class C leader walked 7:17.48, his teammate Ben Kates was 2nd in 7:47.92, earning the team 18 important points.

Lisbon scored 22 important points in the relays, with a second place in the 4x100 & 4x400, and 3rd place in the 4x800. A 2-3 finish in the 100m by Aaron Halls & Quincy Thompson helped as did the 2-3-4 finish in the 300m hurdles by Charles Adams, Brandon Laurelez, & Benjamin Pettingill.

Hall-Dale was lead by sprint standout Tyler Fitzgerald who swept the shorts sprints 100m (11.62) & 200m (23.82), he added a second place in the 400m (53.20). They also got two wins from Sam Shepard who took the 300m hurdles in 42.49 & high jump (6-0)

Telstar distance ace Josef Holt-Andrews was the only triple winner of the meet. Holt-Andrews took the 1600m (4:33.63), 800m (2:05.14) & 3200m (10:02.16)

Other standout performances came from Marques Houston of Monmouth who ran a Class C leading 51.98 to win the 400m. He would also run a leg on the winning 4x400m team as Monmouth clocked the fastest time in Class C 3:37.78.

Madison Ronald Helderman was the top vaulter with a 12-0 clearance, and he added a second win the 110m hurdles via his 16.77. Joe Chapman of Wiscasset jumped 20-9 to take the long jump, in the process he defeated his teammate the top Class C jumper on the year Dale Peaslee (20-10 1/4), the distance moves him to #2 in Class C.

Monmouth added a Class C leader in the 4x800 as they ran 8:45.17 to narrowly defeat Telstar 8:45.71.
