True finishes 4th at adidas Grand Prix

Ben True of Saucony showed his grit and toughness in less than ideal conditions in the 5k at the Adidas Grand Prix Diamond League meet in Randalls Island, NY this afternoon. True running in an elite field placed 4th, running 13:16.94.

True mixed up it with some of the top 5k runners, challenging for a top 3 spot throughout the race. The race was won in a meet record, and world #1 time 13:10.03 by Hagos Gebhriwet. Gebhriwet followed the pace makers, and make his move to run away from the field when they stepped off. Ben ran with Ibrahim Jeilan & Dejen Gebremeskel as he tried to move up in the latter stages of the race. True would pull away from Geremeskel and up into 3rd with 600m to go.

Ben was able to close fast as he tried to stay with Jelian who would hold him off for 3rd. The duo almost chased down 2nd place finisher Vincent Kiprop Chepkok.

The final time was not a personal best for True, but 13:16.94 given the windy and cold conditions show he is very fit, and will be a factor in the US 10K Championships later this summer. If he finishes in the top 3 at Nationals, he will qualify for the World Championships in Russia. True already has the "A" world championship standard.
