Salute to Seniors: Allison Hill (Brunswick HS)

Allison Hill - Brunswick HS

What was your most memorable races? My most memorable race was probably my junior year outdoor season. I was in the hurdle final and was seeded fourth and somehow I managed to get second over both of the highly seeded Bangor girls. I liked being the underdog runner-up.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most? Well, out of all my high school accomplishments I would have to say that winning the soccer state championship my freshman year was my highlight. I have had some very exciting track moments, but nothing will compare to winning my first and only state championship as a high schooler.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school? If I could do it all over again I would probably try to do some weight training. I think I would have benefitted from stronger legs and other muscles; I need a bit more bulk. I also wish I could have gotten just ONE first place at states; the second place podium was my best friend, but I am still proud to have even been that successful at states over my eight seasons of track.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome? Since I was a Freshman, I've struggled with pain in my foot and it took the doctors two years to figure out that I have a split bone in my foot. The only way to possibly ease the pain is to put a screw between the bones, but I probably wouldn't be able to play sports competitively after that. So over my high school career in track, I've had to quit all jumping events which were my favorite because of the pain. Should have done swimming.

What will you miss the most? I think I'm going to miss the coaches the most; I've been with them for four years and I feel so comfortable with them. I hope I'll have coaches as supportive in college as I did during my high school career.

What advice you would give to younger athletes? Don't ever think you can't do better; there's always areas to improve and to make you into a better athlete as a whole.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?  All of my coaches have been so influential in my running career; Delois and Dearing have been extremely supportive and always give me small goals to reach such as improving my times by as small as a tenth of a second. Coach Nadeau has really taught me everything there is to know about fitness and working out and has taught me to always push myself no matter the situation. Coach Jeff helped me discover myself this year in hurdles and understand what I am capable of doing.

What are your college plans? I'm going to go to Bates this fall and plan on trying out for soccer. We'll see how it goes and then I plan on running track. Hopefully it will all work out; I'm not sure what I am going to study yet.

Who would you like to say thank you to? I would like to thank my parents for going to every track meet and being so supportive in all of my athletic events. I would also like to thank all of my coaches, Delois, Dearing, Nadeau and Jeff for making me athlete that I am today. They all have put so much time and effort into making Brunswick a successful running team.
