Girls Race
The teams competing at MCI on Friday, 9/20, managed to survive a tough and technical course at the Pinnacle Park Ski area. Steep hills bookended a course that was not going to yield fast times. The Hampden Girls put 5 in the top 13 to finish ahead of Bangor, 42 to 62. Winslow was right behind in third with 64 points. Waterville (109) edged out Messalonskee (111) for fourth place. MCI (130) rounded out the scoring teams as Skowhegan and Nokomis did not have complete teams.
Individually, Hampden’s Elizabeth Labun won her second race in as many outings, covering the 3.23 mile course, mostly unchallenged, in an impressive 23:13.8. Joann Bougoin stayed with Labun for the first mile and finished 42 seconds behind in 23:55.2. Erica Jenson of Waterville grabbed third place in 24:10.8. Winslow’s Audrey Jones (24.15.7) and Angelyn Masters (25:16.1) of Bangor rounded out the top 5.

Boys Race
On the boys side Messalonskee’s Logan Moses (18:17.9) held off Hampden’s Caleb Lord (18:20) over the last 100 meters as he led his team to a one point win over Bangor, 39-40. It was a 2-man duel throughout with Moses coming out of the woods in the lead and down the last hill with 200 meters to go. Bangor’s Colin Glencross (19:20.7) and Ben Salinas (19:30.2) moved up from back in the pack and finished 3rd and 4th with Hampden’s Dustin Ramsey (19:31.1) less than a second behind for 5th.
Although Bangor put 4 in the top 9, Messalonskee’s 4th and 5th runners, Natale Cardillo (12th) and Kyle Howard (13th) finished high enough to give the Eagles the one point edge. Hampden was not far behind with 46 while Winslow (111), MCI (151) and Skowhegan (159) rounded out the scoring teams. Waterville and Nokomis did not have complete teams.
