How is your fitness as you begin the 2013 season. What excites you most about the coming year of HS XC?
I've trained a lot this summer so I think I've built a good base going into the season. I'm excited to be back running with my team and I love that we have some great freshmen and new runners from other sports that have joined.
When & how did you get started in cross country?
During the summer before 5th grade, my dad was training for a marathon and I asked if I could run with him. That fall, since 5th graders were allowed to join cross country, I ran All Saints Catholic School and came to Hampden Academy after I graduated 8th grade. My middle school coach, Roger Huber really helped me to come to love the sport.
What is your favorite cross country race so far in your high school career?
The Eastern Maine Championship race last year in Belfast is my favorite. We got so muddy and winning the title as a team helped bring us closer together.
Who are the cross country competitors you most enjoy competing against and why?
I really enjoy running against the girls teams from MDI and Brunswick. They have such deep teams with a lot of talent.
What are the keys to your successful cross country training program
I followed my summer training schedule very closely, I try to work as hard as I can in practice, and I always have close communication with Coach Balentine.
What are your goals for the 2013 cross country season?
My goals are to qualify for the New England Championship and to have a strong season both individually and as a team.
The Fun Run
What music do you rock while working out…
I like to listen to pop/electronic music when I work out. Calvin Harris songs are great.
Do you like to run in the mud or the grass…
I like the mud! It isn't real cross country unless you get a little muddy.
Do you hang out on Facebook or Twitter...
Facebook. I don't have a twitter.
Do you like going out or chilling at home…
I love both. But I especially like when my friends and I go out for ice cream after a hard practice or meet. The team dinners before meets are really fun too.
