WILLINGHAM/MURPHY SOAR; BANGOR/BRUNSWICK WIN

A combination of a dry course, seasonable weather and a strong field resulted in some fast times in a seven team KVAC race at Brunswick on Thursday.
In the girls race, Teresa Murphy and Tessa Cassidy of Brunswick raced to an early lead. Murphy pulled away in the final mile to win in 19:47 with Cassidy 30 secnds back. Mt. Blue's Sarah Wade used a strong last mile to overtake Kelly Lynch of Mt.Ararat for 3rd.
The rest of the top ten consisted of Amy Franklin (Morse), Katherine Gunther (Mt. Blue), Allison Fischang (Messalonskee), Angelyn Masters (Bangor), Maggie Hickey (Mt. Blue) and Ruth Van Kampen (Brunswick).
Brunswick captured the team title with 46 points. Mt. Ararat (66), Mt. Blue (77), Bangor (90), Messalonskee (94) and Morse (105) rounded out the team scoring.
Boys Recap
On the boy's side Mt. Blue's Aaron Willingham set a blistering early pace (4:41 first mile) and blazed to an impressive victory with a time of 15:54. Teammate Josh Horne took 2nd. Messalonskee's Logan Moses moved steadily up the field to overtake Mt. Ararat's Sam Wood for 3rd place.
The rest of the top ten were Jonathan Stanhope (Bangor), Dan Lesko (Mt. Blue), Nate MacKenzie (Mt. Ararat), Ben Salinas (Bangor, Matt Gott (Mt. Ararat) and Caleb Halverson-Fried (Bangor).
On the team side, Bangor used their depth to prevail as the top team with 55 points. They were followed by Mt. Ararat (63), Mt. Blue (74), Messalonskee (85), Brunswick (101) and Morse (114).
