Looking back at FOC
The 11th Maine Festival of Champions was one to remember for all those involved. The racing conditions were the best they have been for the meet in several years, and the athletes took full advantage to clock some blazing fast times.
Inside the Numbers
- 38 boys runners ran under 17 minutes, coming into the race 26th athletes were seeded sub 17.
- 25 boys runners were under 17 last year most in meet history, that mark was shattered
- Josef Holt-Andrews course record 15:06.92 took off just under 20 seconds off the 1 year old record (15:26.64 of Mike Tate)
- 6 new boys entries to the all-time meet Top 25 list
-791 finishers in the boys race was a new record, breaking the previous best of 779 set last year
- Lewiston set a team average record of 16:34.07, just ahead of Harwood, VT 16:34.58, the previous fastest team average was Lewiston's 16:56 from 207. Cape Elizabeth 16:43 & Scarborough 16:55 also averaged faster
- 623 girls finishers was a new record as well surpassing the 607 in 2012
- Mt Desert Island girls won for the 3rd straight time & 4th time overall
- MDI team average of 19:47 was second fastest team in history only behind the stacked Cheverus team of 2009 (19:42)
- 5 new additions to the meet top 25 performance list
- 20 sub 20 minute efforts just behind the 21 of 2012.
