BANGOR BOYS/MARANACOOK GIRLS TOPS AT MB RELAYS

   In one of the most exciting races in the 27 year history of the Mt. Blue Relays, Bangor edged Mt. Blue by less than half a second to win the boys race. 

   The race went back and forth through each of the five legs.  Mt. Blue's Aaron Willingham raced to a big lead establishing a new course record with a time of 10:32 over the hilly, but less muddy than usual, two mile loop.  Bangor was able to even things up on the second leg.  Mt. Blue regained the lead on the third leg, but Bangor took a four second edge into the final leg.  Mt. Blue's Josh Horne, running anchor took the lead in the woods, but in the steep downhill stretch to the finish, Bangor's Ben Salinas put on a furious kick and moved in front.  Horne put on one final burst, but came up just shy. 

   Bangor established a new course record with a time of 57:04.93.  Mt. Blue also bested the old record (58:00 by Maranacook in 2006) finishing in 57:05.41.  The race for third place was also close as Maranacook edged Brewer by just three seconds.

   The girls race saw Maranacook's Hannah Despres move her team from 3rd place to first in the final leg with a winning time of 74:30.  Mt. Blue also moved up two spots in the final leg to place second.  Again the battle for third place was tight as Mt. Ararat edged Bangor by just two seconds.

   Cony freshman Anne Guadalupi turned in the fastest time of the day, clocking in at 13:18.  Brewer boys and Maranacook girls captured the awards for fastest "B" teams.
