The New England Prep Division 4 Championships were held at Marianopolis Prep School on  Saturday November 9, 2013.  Teams from all over New England competed in varsity and junior varsity races over a rolling 5k course.

Maine prep school athletes had a strong showing with Kents Hill sophomore Anne McKee winning the girl’s race in 19:11, setting a new course record and besting second place by over a minute. Anne took the lead early on and by the mile mark had opened up a huge lead which she maintained through to the end. Surprised spectators around the course, not expecting someone to be coming so soon, were literally jumping off the course as she came through.

The boy’s race also went to a Maine prep, Henry Smithers of Gould Academy.  Smithers also broke the course record in a time of 16:48. While the boy’s race was tighter Smithers took control early and held the lead the entire race. The Gould team won the meet with Hyde School a close second.

The top 20 in each race move on to the New England Prep All Star Race at St. Mark’s School in Southborough, Massachusetts next week.  The top 20 individuals in all four prep divisions will race in what will likely be a fast race featuring some top competition including Foot Locker Finalist Anoush Shenadeh of Phillips Academy of Andover and other fast girls and boys.
