2013-14 Indoor Track Event Previews:Shot Put
Duncan Preston of South Portland had a big state meet last winter as he finished as the runner-up throwing a personal best 51-2 1/4. Preston is one of the best athletes in the state, and his size and quickness are huge assets in Shot. He'll be looking to move up to the top of the podium.
Scarborough's Hugh McSorley finished 5th as a sophomore last winter throwing 46-4 3/4, outdoors he moved up to 4th. Thornton's Cody Meserve is the other returning scorer, he was 7th last winter.
Watch for Scarborough's Mike Pino who was injured most of last winter, he placed 7th outdoors, and threw 47-9 1/2 as a best. Cheverus's Nick White is another with big potential.

Defending champion James Ferrar of Greely is back looking to add another title to his mantle. Ferrar had his best day at the state meet last winter throwing a personal best of 47-6.
Ellsworth's Dan Cox was 4th in the state last year, he had a best of 44-5 1/2. Yarmouth's Darren Shi was 5th a year ago throwing his best at the state meet, 43-9.
Greely's Spencer McCarthy is the other returning scorer, he placed 7th throwing 42-9 3/4
