2013-14 Indoor Track Event Previews: Mile
The top returning runner from the state meet a year ago is sophomore Colin Tardiff of Scarborough. Tardiff ran his ran to a 4th place finish last winter with a 4:39.04 clocking. Outdoors he focused on the 3200m where he was the state runner-up. He's coming off a strong xc season, and with a year of experience under his belt is shooting for the top spot on the podium.
Bangor senior Jon Stanhope has the fastest returning time from last year, 4:30.96. Stanhope placed 7th a year ago but had run the 4x800 before the race. If he opts to run the mile fresh he will be one to beat.
Messalonskee's Logan Moses is the other returning scorer from 2013. Moses placed 6th in 4:40.13 setting his seasonal best. He is coming off a strong xc season which should give him the strength for a fast time in the mile.
Caleb Lord wasn't on the podium last winter but came back outdoors in a big way as he was 3rd overall. Lord who ran 4:44.03 indoors, dropped his 1600m time down to a best of 4:30.74
Keep an eye out for Mt Blue's Josh Horne & Aaron Willingham who had big xc season's and could translate to fast times on the track.

Class B
Defending state champion Dan Curts of Ellsworth will look to make it two in a row in the mile this winter. Last year Curts made it a sit and kick affair after a slow opening 800m, he was able to squeeze by Camden Hill's Ben Trapani for a 4:39.80 to 4:39.87 victory. His best indoor time from 2013 was a 4:21.46 effort in the GBTC Invitational. Dan would go on to win the outdoor title clocking as personal best 4:14.02. He is coming off an injured plagued xc season but has got his fitness back now, and qualified for the Footlocker National XC Championship.
The aforementioned Trapani is back as well after his runner-up finish to Curts last year. Ben was 3rd in the outdoor meet running 4:34.25
MDI's Aidan Robichaud Ward was on the podium a year ago in 7th, he'll be looking to move up a few spots this winter.
With Will Shafer of Gray New Gloucester running indoor for the first time he is a name to watch. Shafer was the runner-up to Curts in the 1600 last year where he ran a 4:16.28 outdoors. Will would go on the earn ALL-NE honors, and run a 4:18.51 mile in the NB Nationals. He is coming off his best xc of his career and is primed to run fast this winter.
Others to watch are Ben Decker of Yarmouth, who ran the 2nd fastest time overall last winter 4:31.21, he opted for the 2 mile at states but could double this season. Cape's Liam Simpson ran a 4:34.74 last winter for his best time, he took his running to the next level during xc season, now it's time to see if it translates to the track.
Ellwsorth may have another factor in the mile with Brayden Beardsley running indoor for the first time this winter.
