Girls Highlights

South Portland remained undefeated as it cruised to another victory, the Red Riots tallied 238, Gorham was second with 117 while Noble (94) finished third. Biddeford was 4th with 59, McAuley had 33 points in 5th.

Lauren Magnuson of South Portland was a double winner as she took the 400m in 64.76 then won the 200m in 28.69. The Red Riots also got a strong 800m from Shannon Conley as she clocked 2:26.88 class A & state #2 time. Freshman Callie O'Brien jumped 5-0 in the high jump, the mark is an SMAA leader in the junior divison, and ranks her in a tie for 2nd in the state.

Jackie Turner of Gorham lowered her SMAA leading 600y to 1:36.04. Teammate Sophia Swiatek threw 32-11 in the shot put to move up to class A #4 in the event, she ranks third in the SMAA.

 

Boys Highlights

South Portland took the team win as they scored 124.5 points to outdistance second place Noble (106.5). Gorham was thrird with 94 while Biddeford placed 4th with 74.

James Ociti of Biddeford was a man on a misson on Saturday. The senior set a US#1 mark in the 600 yard with his league leading time of 1:16.47, that time is one of the fastest in SMAA history. Ociti's day wasn't done after the 600 though, he stepped to the line in the 400m and cranked out a 51.90, no one else in the state has run that fast this winter, previously he had run a SMAA senior division record on 50.89. He added his third win of the day in the 200m, 23.88, and then ran a 400m leg of Biddeford's Sprint Medley.

Duncan Preston of South Portland won the shot put with a class A #2 mark, and state #3 effort of 48-10 3/4, he also would win the long jump with a 19-10 effort. Daniel Guiliani improved on his junior division leading shot put mark as he threw a personal best 43-10 3/4.

Justin Gagnon of Biddeford won the senior 55m hurdles in a swift 8.19

Girls Highlights

Deering emerged victorious in a very close meet with Cheverus, Scarborough, Bonny Eagle & Portland. The Rams finished with 139 which was 4 in front of Cheverus, and 7 in front of Scarborough.

Deering got a pair of wins from Rashad Zagon who took the Sr 55m hurdles in 9.87, and the Sr high jump with a 5-0 clearance. Edie Pallozzi the standout distance runner for the Rams ran a state leading 5:24.99 effort.

Bonny Eagle's Kialeigh Marston had a busy day on the track. Marston ran a leg on the the state leading 4x800 (10:31.19), then won the 600y in 1:37.66, she followed that up with a state leading mark in the 2 mile, 11:47.24.

Meredith Willard of Cheverus won the Sr 55m dash in 7.71 then added a win in the Sr. 200m 27.84, the 200m in class A #3 performance. Teammate Sarah Mount ran class A #3 performance in the 400m as she ripped a 63.43, the mark is also a SMAA leading mark in the Jr. 400m. In that race she just held off a strong run from Scarborough's Aly Atherton who ran 1:03.6, which is Class A #4.

Boys Highlights

Scarborough rolled to another victory as the Red Storm scored 264, Deering edged Cheverus 96-94 for second, while Bonny Eagle (49) was 4th with Portland (19) in 5th.

Scarborough got a pair of wins from sophomore Colin Tardiff who won the mile in a league leading time of 4:39.18 then broke the jr division 800m record with a Class A leading 2:03.72, the old record was a 2:08.68. He also anchored the league leading jr relay to victory

Cheverus got a two wins from Jake Dixon who sprinted his way to vcitory in the 55m 6.93 then ran a state leading 23.48 in the 200m. He also ran the second leg on the league leading 4x200 (1:35.08).

Freshman Sam Rusak cleared 12ft in the pole vault which is class A #3 performance, and SMAA leading. His effort also ranks him first in the nation for freshman. Jacon Terry of Scarborough won the 2 mile in state and class A #3 effort of 10:11.91.

Deering's Hany Ramadan won the 400m in 52.44 and was second in the 200m 23.79.

 

 

SMAA: Massbesic, Thornton, Westbrook & Windham

Girls Highlights

In a battle of undefated teams, Thornton Academy came out on top of Westbrook 174-161. Heading into the relays TA held a 3 point edge, Westbrook cut the lead down to 1 in after the sprint medley, but a pass outside the zone in the jr relay sealed the fate of the meet.

Thornton Academy was led by Tori Daigle who won the 55m hurdles in 9.30, the 200m in 27.77 & the long jump 16-1 1/4, she also added a strong leadoff leg on the winning Sr. 4x200m relay. Also contributing the the win for the Trojans was Alexandra Pettway who won the 55m in 7.64 & won the triple jump in a league leading 33-2 1/2, the mark also has her ranked class A #2 in the event.

Westbrook was led by double winner Halee Phelps who took the mile in 5:47.16, and then came back for a win in the sr. 800m 2:36.30.

Marshwood's Leah Dodier equaled the #1 jump in the league, class A & state with a 5-2 clearance.

For Windham Mackenzie Joy won the 600yd in a league #2 time of 1:37.19

 

 

Boys Highlights

Thornton Academy remained undefeated as the Trojans tallied 219.66 points, Windham with 157 was second while Westbrook had 70 for third with Massabesic had 47 & Marshwood 13.33

TA was led by sprinter Dan Marsh who won the jr 55m in 7.06, jr 400m 56.10, then added another W in the jr. 200m 24.80, he also led of the winning jr 4x200m relay to a win.

Andrew Smith of TA won the long jump (19-6) but it came at a price as the class A leader suffered a hamstring injury of his final jump.
