Hello again,

Happy 2014!

It has been awhile since my last blog - snow (and ice!) have covered Downeast Maine and forced Ellsworth Indoor Track athletes to some pretty creative methods of training. I've seen everything from homemade plywood throwing circles, metal sneaker grips for slick and slushy long runs, and even 400 repeats maxing out the school treadmills during the past few weeks. Our "pre-season" lasted quite a bit longer this year since UMaine is finishing up their indoor track facility and recent meets have been unfortunately cancelled. I think this extra time to bust it out in practice has only gotten us closer as a team while keeping us pumped up and mentally ready to compete. Our Coach took some members of the team to compete at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center in Roxbury, Massachusetts this past Saturday. I ran the mile in 5:17 and felt partially satisfied with this effort as my first run on an indoor track so far this season. I was supposed to run the 400 meter dash too, but missed an event for the first time as I was focused on helping a teammate get signed in for their event properly. As a whole we had state qualifiers, first timers in a field house, and a proud Coach to top it all off! The entire trip was a new experience for everyone and an amazing time overall! We went shopping around Boston and saw $11,000 fur coats, ice sculptures, giant Christmas decorations, and enjoyed being in some warmer air. As senior year comes closer and closer to a close, everyone has exciting decisions to make. The most important choice must be made soon - very soon! - and I can't wait to share the news with all of you. My best wishes to all in their training, racing, with staying warm, and making the 2013-2014 indoor track season unforgettable! Take care & as always, have fun!
