League records fall: Cuesta leaps 43-1 1/4 to break TJ record, 400m records go down,James Ociti 50.47 & Kialeigh Marston 60.63

 The last SMAA regular season meets were contested today, and the performances across the board didn't disappoint. Highlighting the action was Michael Cuesta's Sr Triple Jump record 43-1 1/4, James Ociti's 50.47 Sr 400m record, & Kialeigh Marston of Bonny Eagle's 60.63, Jr. 400m record. Other highlights included a state leading 6-4 high jump from Austin Weigle of Kennebunk, & a 1:33.98 4x200 from the Scarborough boys. Check out the action

Girls Highlights

South Portland completed an undefeated regular season as they held on for a 143-138 win over previously undefeated Thornton Academy.

Kialeigh Marston of Bonny Eagle broke Maria Curit's Jr 400m (60.94) as she ran a best of 60.63, that mark is good for Class A & State #2. She added a second win in the 800m 2:36.33

South Portland set a new state leading mark in the 4x200 as they stopped the clock at 1:53.0. The Riots also got a Class A #4 throw from Michelle Medici in the shot put. Plus a Class A #5 run from Lauren Magnuson in the 200m (27.59)

Tori Daigle of Thornton Academy had a strong day winning the 55m hurdles 9.01, finishing second place in both the 200m (27.61) & long jump (16-1 1/2). Teammate Alexandra Pettaway was a double winner, she won the 55m in Class A #2 time of 7.59, and then jumped 16-2 1/4 in the long jump

 

Boys Highlights

Scarborough boys took the win over previously undefeated Thornton Academy, this marks the 5th straight undefeated regular season for the Red Storm.

South Portland's Michael Cuesta broke the league record of Patrick Ciez in the triple jump with a Class A leading 43-1 1/4. His teammates Duncan Preston 41-10 (Class A #3) & Benjamin Michaud 40-11 3/4 (Class A #4) led a 1-2-3 sweep for the Red Riots

Scarborough's open 4x200 relay ran a state leading 1:33.98 to close out the meet.

The shot put was one of the best events of the day as Mike Pino the current Class A leader threw 49-6 1/4, while teammate Hugh McSorley had a big personal best of 49-4 1/4 to move to Class A #2. Duncan Preston of South Portland threw 48-3 1/4 for third, he is Class A #3.

Girls Highlights

Edie Pallozzi of Deering took a shot at the league record in the 600yd, and came up just short, but ran a US #1 1:28.20.

Deering's Rashad Zagon was a double winner taking the 55m hurdles 9.55, and the senior high jump 5-0.

Alexis Elowitch threw Class A #3 & state #5 34-1 to win the shot put

Gorham's Kristin Benson won the 55m in 7.88 then added a win in the 200m 27.81.

 

Boys Highlights

This meet was full of top performances.

In the Sr 400m James Ociti held off a strong run from Hany Ramadan of Deering to run the satte leading & SMAA sr 400m recor dof 50.47, Ramadan finishing in 50.59, a personal best indoor and also under the former record mark set by Ociti earlier this season.

The Sr 200m was a race to watch, as Hany Ramadan make a strong late race surge to edge Cheverus's Jake Dixon for the win, they were both timed in a state leading 23.35, running in lane 6 Isaac Yeboah of Cheverus clocked 23.40 which is state & class A #3, while Ociti finished 4th in 23.56 equalling his best time on the season.

The senior 55m hurdle race produced Class A #1 & #2 times as Justin Gagnon of Biddeford came from behind to edge Isaac Yeboah of Cheverus by .01, the final times 8.01 to 8.02

Austin Weigle of Kennebunk set a state leading mark in the high jump with a 6-4 clearance, he has some good attempts at 6-6

Girls Highlights

The Westbrook girls finished 2-18 in the regular season a year ago, and today completed a remarkable turnaround season for the Blue Blazes program with another meet win to finish the regular season with a 18-1-1 record

The Arsenault sisters, Courtney (jr division) & Brittney (sr division) picked up a pair of win as they won the 55m & 200m in their respective divisions. Courtney clocked a personal best 27.70 in the 200m, while Brittany ran her fastest 200m of the season with a 27.85

 

Boys Highlights

Windham boys were the victorious team as they finished the regular season with a 13-6 record.

Jr division star Eric Webb won the 55m in a personal best 7.07, and the 200m in 24.72.
