Curts breaks Maine all-time 2 mile record, 9:07.24 US#4
Updated Boys Indoor all-time best
Dan Curts of Ellsworth HS finished 3rd in the 2 mile, his 9:07.24 was an all-time Maine best and is the 4th fastest time in the country. Curts broke the 38 year old record of former Lawrence HS & Olympian Bruce Bickford's, who ran 9:09.5 back in the 1975 at the Dartmouth Invitational. The race was won in record breaking fashion by Christian Alvardo of Fairfield Prep, CT who clocked a US #1 9:00.29. The mark broke the 9:02.58 mark set by Andrew Springer in 2009. It has been quite a week for Dan who ran a US #1 for 3k last Sunday to set another Maine all-time best. The senior who will be headed to Iowa State in the fall wasn't pleased with his race. "I felt bad the whole time" Curts would say post-race.

Gray New Gloucester senior Will Shafer ran to a 5th place finish in the boys mile to earn All-New England honors. Shafer's time was a 4:20.31. Also running well was Ben Trapani of Camden Hills who ran a personal best 4:24.09 to finish 10th.

Synclaire Tasker of Brewer had a great day in the 55m hurdles as she ran just off her lifetime best with a 8.48 to finish third. After finishing second in the Class A state meet, Tasker got back to work in a big way today.

Ellsworth's Aleta Looker found her way on the podium in the grils 1k for the second year in a row. Running out of section 1, Looker dominated her race as she went throught the first 400m in 65, and through 800m in 2:16.9. Looker's time of 2:54.71 ended up being good for 3rd overall and another All-New England effort. Looker said she barely made it to her race in time, and only had 5 minutes to warm-up, it looks like it didnt have much of an effect on her race.

Cheverus junior Jake Dixon ran his way onto the podium with a 2nd place finish in section 4 to finish 6th overall. Dixon, the class A 200m champion ran a 35.63 for 300m, the time was just .11 off Cam Cormier's 35.55 which is the Maine all-time best.

Girls Long Jump
Thornton Academy junior Tori Daigle jumped her way to 5th place overall and her first All-New England honor. Daigle jumped a best fo 17-3 on the day, her second best effort of 17-2 1/2 broke the tie for 5th. The jump is the second furthest for Daigle on the season, only surpassed by her state record breaking jump to win the Class A state meet two weeks ago.
