The Orono girls made it three Class C state titles in a row Saturday at Foxcroft Academy as the Red Riots were the only team to score more than a hundrend points as they tallied 102. Traip Academy put up a challenge with 74 to finish as the state runner-up

Orono set the tone for the meet in the opening event on the track, the 4x800 where they cruised to an easy victory, running 10:21.21.

Sophomore sprinter Lauren Stoops won the 100m dash with a 12.88 clocking, added 6 more points in the 400m from her third place finish (61.39), completed her day with 10 more important point for the team as she would win the 200m in 27.01

The always tough 400m-800m double didn't phase Orono freshman Becky Lopez-Anido who was the runner-up in the 400m (61.11) then finished just .02 out of first in the 800m (2:24.14). Lopez-Anido also ran legs on both the winning 4x800m relay & 4x400.

The pole vault was another event the Red Riots piled up the points as they had a 2-3 finish from sophomores Alison Pickering & Samantha Round.

Traip Academy was paced by Elora McCuddy who won the 400m in a speedy 59.05, she doubled back to take third in the 800m (2:24.81).  McCuddy also added a leg on the second place 4x400m relay plus a 5th place finish in the long jump. The Rangers also got a win in the 100m hurdlers from senior Ashleigh Roberts as she ran 15.90. Roberts also ran a leg on the runner-up 4x100m relay team plus added a third place finish in the long jump.

Catherine McAuley standout thrower Olivia Smith won the javelin with a personal best 121-3, the mark is the best throw in the state. Smith added a second win in the discus where she threw 122-3, and just missed the trifecta as she was the state runner-up in the shot put

Washburn senior Carsyn Koch set the Class C meet record in the high jump as she cleared 5-5 1/2, she also ran on the winning 4x100.

Mattanawcook freshman Tia Tardy won two events showing her verstality, the first one came in the long jump as she got out to 17-0 3/4, the other came in the 800 as she took the title running 2:24.12, her margin of victory was just .02.

 

 

It's been a long time coming for the Lisbon Greyhounds, and finally they were able to hoist the Class C State title on Saturday in Foxcroft Academy. The school that trains on a dirt track was able to breakthrough and erase years of frustration as they selaed the victory with a third place finish in the 4x400m.

Lisbon won the state title with only one individual champion, Tyler Bard took the 1600m racewalk covering the distance in 7:20.17 with temamate Jeff Willey providing 8 more points with his runner-up finish. Brad would score three more points in the pole vault. The relays proved big as well with the 4x800m team finishing second, the 4x100m in 4th, and the 4x400m closing it out with a 3rd. So between the racewalk and relays that was 36 points, more than half of their 67 points.

The Greyhounds got a third place finish from Jordan Glover in the long jump, & another third place finish in the 300m hurdles from Charles Adams (42.98). Adas also was 5th in the 110m hurdles (17.71).

Telstar distance standout Josef Andrews once again won a pair of titles as the Iowa State bound senior won the 1600m running a seasonal best 4:24.03, he doubled back to take the 3200m in 9:32.62, this was the second year in a row he has won both.

Madison's Ron Helderman was a double winner on the day. Helderman started with a win in the 110m hurdles where he ran a strong 15.82, he would cleared a new Madison school record 13-3 to take the pole vault

MCI's Eric Hathaway was a standout in the throwing events. Hathaway won the discus with a heave of 139-9, and added a 164-2 effort in the javelin to win the title.

Monmouth Academy's Marques Houston had a strong day on the track. Houston started with a 51.24 effort in the 400m for gold, he followed that up with a 23.22 effort to take the 200m, before closing it put with a leg on the winning 4x400m relay (3:37.64)

Another standout on the day was Maranacook's Kelby Mace who won the long jump with a career best 21-8 he added two other runner-up finishes, a 6-0 clearance in the high jump & 43-8 1/2 leap in the triple jump. Mace added a 5th place finish in the javelin.
