The Westbrook Boys picked where the left off from last week with sophomore Josh Lombardo leading the way. Lombardo picked up his first high school win running a personal best of 17:14 with teammate Saad Zackaria finishing 2nd in 17:23. Brody Bate of Marshwood rounded out the top 3 with a time of 17:24. Lombardo dominated from the gun, opening up a big lead after the mile. His gap was 15 seconds at one point, but Bate’s and Zackaria’s battle for second brought them closer to the leader over the last mile. The Blazes earned their first win of the season by putting 5 in the top 7, to score 20 points. Westbrook was followed by Marshwood’s 45, Bonny Eagles 76, and Portland’s 85.

The Lady Blazes came away with another win today, edging the surging Hawks of Marshwood, 30-37. Halee Phelps came away with the win over Maddy Doyle, despite losing one of her shoes in the first half mile. Doyle (19:56) and Phelps (19:48) battled back and forth over the 3.1 mile course with 3rd place finisher Gabbi Pabst (20:15) of Westbrook also running with the pack for the first 2+ miles. Phelps finally won the battle for the win over the last 800m, which saw her put some distance between her and Doyle. Portland came in 3rd led by a solid 4th place day out of Darcy Hinck, and Bonny Eagle finished 4th led by a 7th place finish from Kyaunna Libby.
