Throw Back Thursday: Class of 2015 in 2011
We’ll be looking at the top 10 seniors of 2014 and see what their PR’s are now compared to when they were freshmen, and where they were in state meet as well as ranked in the state and in their class
2014 Senior Boys Fastest 5k Times
1.) We’ll go down in order from the fastest 5k times this year starting with Aaron Willingham. He was the only Maine runner to go under 16 this year as he went 15:58. Willingham didn't race in Maine till he was a junior, before he was a Texas boy, where his fastest 5k time was a 16:42. If he ran that time in Maine when he was a freshman, he would have been the fastest freshman by more than a minute. During his freshman year, Willingham competed in the Texas State meet and finished 73rd in a 17:33. He finishes his senior cross country season as the Class A state champion.
2.) Jacob Terry clocked a 16 flat at Festival this year and when he was a freshman his best time was 18:14, making him the 5th fastest freshmen in Maine. Terry’s fastest time of 2011 was a 18:14. Terry ran 18:37 his freshman year at the state meet as he placed 55th, he finished his season off with a 16:04 and a 4th place finish.
3.) Like Willingham, Bryce Murdick didn’t compete in Maine when he was a freshman. Based off the Milesplit records, Bryce ran an 18:47 for his best time. So we had a chat with “The Bryce” himself.
Murdick ran as “Bryce Frizzell” and based off those records. Frizzell, clocked a fast 17:11 as a PR but in his state meet he was 18:49 and 137th. With his PR though, that would have made him the fastest freshman… without Willingham of course.
4.) Iid Sheikh-Yusuf of Deering didn’t compete in 2011 as a freshman, but has the 4th fastest 5k time of this year with a 16:02 at the Class A State meet.
5.) The Class B state champion, Mitchell Morris of Cape Elizabeth PR’d, with a 16:06 at Festival and won states in a 16:13. Sadly he didn’t compete in 2011 but played soccer, you can read all about it in his blog… where’s the next post Mitchell?
6.) With lots of improvement from when he was once a freshman, Dan Lesko’s PR when he was a freshman was 21:53. He was 129th among his class at the time. He now graduates as the 6th fastest senior. Lesko PR’d this year with a 16:07. At FOC he was 7th with a 16:15 and finished 5th in the class A state race.
7.) Isaiah Harris, the talented all around runner runner clocked a 16:12 PR this year at Festival, he didn’t compete his freshman year.
8.) Leading Morris for the first half of the season was his teammate Kyle Kennedy. Kennedy sits as the 8th fastest with 16:17 which was run at Festival. Kennedy ran Festival in a 19:25 when he was a freshman as he was 15th in the freshman race. Kennedy didn’t compete in the State meet his freshman year as he was the 8th runner for Cape Elizabeth, but was 4th this year as their #2 runner with a 16:42.
9.) Leavitt's Harrison Knowlton ran the 9th fastest 5k in the 2014 season was just behind Kennedy at FOC with a 16:18 and then again just behind Kennedy at the State meet with a 16:43, he didn't run as a freshman, come on!
10.) To round out our top 10, Massabesic’s, Michael Aboud was the best 10th fastest senior this year with a PR of 16:24 at festival to place 12th. When Aboud first started running as a freshman, his PR was an 18:24 in the Statet Meet at Twinbrook, as he placed 43rd. This year he was 7th, with a 16:33.
