Lake Region's Kate Hall didn't have the conference championship she wanted too but still was good enough to be voted as the girls track athlete of the meet by the coaches. Hall won both events she contested the Sr 55m, and the long jump. In the 55m , she opened with a 7.11 in the trials and progressed to a 7.07 to win in the finals. On the long jump runway Hall jumped a strong 19-7 1/4 to dominate the field. However her evening would be over after the long jump as she started to cramp in her legs, this of course is related to her diabetes. Her blood sugar levels spiked and then dropped way down. "I could feel my legs cramping during the day" Hall said a few hours after she finished competing. "My levels went way up to 300 then back down to 50, it's not how I wanted my last conference championship to go".
In the field the coaches selected Alyssa Coyne of Greely as the MVP. Coyne won the senior shot put with a heave of 39-1 1/2, just off her best of the season by 1/2 foot. She won the event by over 6ft to show what a dominating performance it was. Alyssa wasn't done as she added another win with a 8-6 clearance in the pole vault.
Fryeburg's Skye Collins swept the junior sprints as she ran 7.87 to win the 55m, and then cam back in the 200m to win comfortable in a new personal best 28.10.
Traip Academy's Elora McCuddy had an impressive 60.80 to win the 400m by over 3 seconds, the time improves here to #3 in Class B
Greely's Jocelyn Mitiguy had a great day in the 55m hurdles as she took her season best from 9.30 all the way down to 9.09. Mitiguy entered the meet as the number two seed, but quickly established herself with a 9.13 in the trials, she would lower her time down .04 more in the final. Her time of 9.09 moves her up to #2 in Class B.
In the most exciting finish of the night Emma England of Falmouth brought her 4x200m relay team from way back with a huge anchor leg to give the Yacthsmen a 1:54.77 to 1:54.80 win over Fryeburg. England also won the Sr 200m in a personal best 27.73.
In the high Jump Emma Egan of Yarmouth the state leader cleared 5-2 to take the win.
Anna Lastra of Fryeburg returned from an injury that sidelined her a couple of weeks with a strong win in the mile, she clocked 5:30.29 as she came from behind in her final strides to nip Greely's Izzy Evans 5:30.31. Evans would get revenge in the two mile as she used a strong kick to pull away from Lastra over the final two laps, Evans winning time was 12:12.24
The Falmouth girls opened the meet by clocking the state #2 time in winning the 4x800 as the Yachtsmen ran 10:27.17 to hold off Greely 10:27.96, Cape Elizabeth was a close 3rd with a 10:30.81 with Wells right there as well at 10:31.69, and then Freeport 10:31.71
On the boys side Victor Yang of Fryeburg (pictured above) earned the boys field event MVP with his outstanding performances in the high jump, and triple jump. In the high jump Yang matched the state leading jump with his personal best 6-4 clearance. He wasn't done though as he added a second victory in the triple jump as he got out to 40-9 1/2.
On the track, Cape Elizabeth's Mitchell Morris was selected as the MVP. Morris opened with a 4:32.37 effort to win by 3 seconds as he kicked his way to the win over the last 400m. Mitch doubled back in the 2 mile, and ran with the pack for a little over a mile, then when he made his move he easily pulled away. There was one problem though, he was DQ'd for an infraction during the race, so the win went to Falmouth's Bryce Murdick in 10:12.47
The Falmouth boys relay teams came ready to compete. The 4x800m relay team of Spencer Brown, Sean Soucy, Josh Simesnky & Bryce Murdick smoked the competition en route to a state leading 8:22.53. The senior 4x200m relay team of Andy Clement, Kohl Valle, Tony St. Angelo & Nick Sanzari closed the meet out with a state leading 1:34.64
York's Tucker Corbett ran a personal best and school record to win the 400m in 51.25, that time is the class b leader and #2 in the state this year. He would narrowly miss winning the 200m as he finished 2nd in 23.80.
The boys 800m was a strong race as Falmouth's Spencer Brown led the pace from the start to clock 2:04.24 with Yarmouth's Sam Gerken 2:04.95 closing fast.
The York duo of Colt Santoro & Matt Arsenault swept the Sr. 55m hurdles, clocking 8.25 & 8.37 respectively.
Darren Shi of Yarmouth took the senior shot put with a heave of 47-2
In the junior sprints, Falmouth's Matt Polewaczyk swept the 55m (6.98) and 200m (24.39).
