Division One

The battle for the WMC division one Championship on Saturday will likely be between Falmouth, Greely and York who have traded victories against each other this season. The Yachtsmen got the best of the Rangers on May 21 outscoring them 107-101 at Falmouth while York got the best of Greely nearly two weeks ago at Fryeburg. Each of these teams rely on few athletes to do most of the scoring for their respective teams. For Falmouth, look no further for Adelaide Cooke. Cooke is seeded first in the discus, second in the javelin, shot put and 300 hurdles. A good performance from Cooke on Saturday could put Falmouth in great position to take the WMC title. Along with Cooke, Lydia Farmer will also look to have a big day on Saturday as she is seeded first in the triple-jump and second in the long jump to Kate Hall. Falmouth also relies on a solid distance crew. The Yachtsmen come into the meet seeded first in the 4x800 and have a great amount of depth. Gina Pardi has been the most consistent distance performer for the Yachtsmen and is seeded third in the mile and fifth in the 800.

For Greely, Alyssa Coyne looks to have a big performance on Saturday as she is seeded first in the shot-put and second in the javelin. While, she’s only entered in two events her performance is imperative for the Rangers to hold off Falmouth and York. The Ranger’s also come in with the second fastest 4x800 in the conference which includes Emily Mason who is seeded fourth in the 3200. Getting points from her will be necessary for Greely to win.

York brings in arguably the strongest sprinting team in the state which makes them incredibly tough to beat. The Wildcats look to do most of its damage in these races having an abundance of athletes seeded near the top of most events. Morgan Smith comes in with the second fastest 400 in the conference. She will also run on the 4x400. Laura Kenealy and Lydia Shaw are entered in the 800 and come in ranked third and fourth in the conference. The Wildcats have the top times in the 4x400 and the 4x100 which will benefit them in the later stages of the meet.

Division Two

Yarmouth looks like the early favorite in division two as it features a very formidable distance team. Grace Cowles comes into the meet posting the second fastest 1600 in the conference having run 5:32.37. Anneka Murrin is entered in the 800 and has run 2:27 this year. Expect a big performance from her. Also look for Abby Hamilton who has run 12:05 in the 3200 which ranks third in the conference. The Clippers need good performances from these three to take the title. They also have Emma Egan who is one of the top sprinters in southern Maine. She has broken 13 in the 100 and ranks first in the high jump.

Likely to challenge Yarmouth is Traip Academy who brings in Elora McCuddy who's one of the top middle distance runners in the state. She is ranked first in the 400 and 800 and wins in these events on Saturday would put Traip in great position to pull off the victory. Hannah Nightingale is another athlete to watch for this team as she is entered in the 110 hurdles, 200 meter dash and triple jump. Other schools that can challenge Yarmouth and Traip Academy are Lake Region, Fryeburg and Gray New Gloucester.

Hannah Austin NYA

The senior from NYA comes in with the fastest time in the 3200 having run 11:46.28 earlier this month at Greely. She’s the favorite to win the 3200 being one of two runners having broke 12 minutes this season. She is also seeded sixth in the 1600 having run 5:38.84 this year. Look for her to have a big day in the distance races.
