Name: Halee Phelps
School: Westbrook High School
What was your most memorable race?
The 2014 XC state meet that I won. It felt great to become a State Champion, and I will never forget that day.
Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
A variety of people, including Maddy Doyle. I feel like I raced her more than anyone else, and it was always a good race. She is a great competitor.
What was your greatest accomplishment?
Winning a state championship. There was a lot of work that went into that season, and between my teammates, making it back to the State Meet as a team, and so much more, it made the whole fall perfect.
If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
Being more motivated. It took me a while to learn how to be motivated, but I am glad I figured it out in the later part of high school.
What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
There were a bunch. In terms of running, just the mental grind of bad stretches of races. It can really get you down and make you question why you run sometimes, but I have some great teammates, coaches, and friends to help me through.
What will you miss the most?
My teammates and my coach.
What advice you would give to younger athletes?
Make sure you run when you're supposed to, stay motivated, and enjoy the moment!
What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?
Without my coach, Tim Even, I wouldn't have been able to accomplish half of what I did. He helped me not only on the track, but with other life obstacles too. I'm very grateful to have had a coach like him.
What are your college plans?
I plan on attending Queens University of Charlotte, where I will run XC and Track and major in Political Science.
Who would you like to say thank you to?
My coach, teammates, and parents.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Good luck to my Westbrook teammates next year!!
