Mattanawcook Academy in Lincoln Maine is hosting the PVC XC Championship meets this Saturday October 17th at 12 noon. The runners will experience a new course this year and it is fast in many spots, but remains a true cross country course by offering narrow trails, hills, roots, rocks and a few nasty mud holes. The weather is expected to be rainy and in the 50's. A perfect October day for racing. The girls course record is 20:12.51 set by Orono's Tia Tardy a few weeks ago.
Girls PVC Large School preview
Caribou, Ellsworth, Foxcroft, Hermon, John Bapst, MDI, Old Town and Presque Isle runners will be competing for the PVC Large School title. This should be an interesting race. Caribou High School is the predicted winner overall based on past 5k times this season, but MDI and Old Town are both running well now and are within a few points of winning the meet. Caribou is predicted to score 60, MDI 70 and Old Town 75. This will come down to the 3, 4 and 5 runners and how well they finish. With full respect for the Caribou and Old Town runners, I predict MDI to win the trophy this year.
Amanda Boyd of John Bapst should have another great run winning overall. Mandy Graham of Presque Isle, Emma Strong of MDI, Audree O'Meara of Old Town and Jen Clawson of Foxcroft will all be fast and have a chance for runner up. The predicted times for the 3rd to 10th runners are within 48 seconds. Others to watch are Julia Page, Freshman Madison Jandreau, Emily Banks, Sarah Hunt and Brianna O'leary.

Girls PVC Small School preview
The PVC XC Small School race will showcase the top runners from Bangor Christian, Bucksport, Calais, Central, Deer Isle-Stonington, Dexter, Fort Kent, GSA, Houlton, Lee, Mattanawcook Academy, Orono, Searsport, Sumner and Washington Academy. Host Mattanawcook Academy had a great run from 2005-2008 winning PVC's each year scoring as low as 24 points in 2007. Orono High School is predicted to win this year with 19 points. George Stevens Academy is predicted 2nd with 37 and host M.A. 3rd with a score of 93. Orono is predicted to finish 1,2,3,6 and 7. GSA runners Eliza Broughton and Zeya Lorio are predicted to break up the Orono Five. The Orono girls should win the PVC Small School Title .
Tia Tardy of Orono High School should best her course record set a few weeks ago of 20:12.51 by over a minute. Hannah Steelman and Kassidy Dill complete the Orono Trio and should both finish well under the current course record. George Stevens Academy has 4 runners predicted to finish in the top 10. Eliza Broughton, Zeya Lorio, Mary Richardson and Hanna Gutow represent GSA as the top runners for the team. Expect Olivia Fandell and Kamille Kahtala of Orono to run with the GSA pack and finish up front. Others to watch are Rylee Warman of Houlton, Natasha Clement of Bucksport. Senior Vanessa Twombley of Mattanawcook Academy knows this course better than anyone else and is having a great season. Don't count her out for a top 10 finish.
