George Stevens John Hassett came into the Regional Championship as the favorite to capture the individual title
Hassett sat in the pack for the first mile then turned on the jets after the mile. "I took the first mile kinda slow, but once we got to super highway, I turned it on." the junior said.
"After that I went as hard as I could for the rest of the race." He was rewarded for his effort as he crossed the line in a new personal best 16:20.09.
Hassett's winning margin was 43 seconds. He'll be looking to capture the state individual title next weekend at Twin Brook
Orono's Tristan Butterfield was the runner-up clocking 17:03.25 he was followed by teammate Matt Keresey in 17:14.66.
George Stevens Ollie Dillon had a strong race for 4th while Isaiah Brown of Houlton punched his ticket to the state meet fnishing 5th in 17:16.67
Orono won the team competition as all 7 runners placed in the top 15 as they scored 29 as they held off a strong effort from George Stevens Academy who scored 32.
