Katherine Lagget-Barr came off an injury a week before the post season and made it well known that she's at 100% by dominating both WMC's and Regionals. Last week she won by 24 seconds over her teammate with a 19:10. She's the defending Class B State champion, look for her to compete as the fastest girl in the state again. Her teammate, Carolyn Todd, has come into the season filling big shoes as Izzy Evans went to study abroad for the semester. Todd has had no problem stepping it up for her team. She had quite the push from Abbey Hamilton of Yarmouth as she out leaned her at the end, 19:34.08 to 19:34.87. Todd has been a strong #2 for Greely. She'll try to close the gap to her teammate this weekend and try to help her team defend another state title. Hamilton will try to beat Todd this weak after losing on the lean. She was with her for the whole race, maybe she'll change for race tactics this weekend, or she'll just try to improve her kick. Every move she made, Todd responded to it. She beat her once this year at the Manchester Invite and will try to do so again. Her teammate, Anneka Murrin was running with Todd and Hamilton last weekend, and even the weekend before at WMC's. She finished 4th with a 19:39. She closed the gap on her teammate and will try to go with her all the way and help Hamilton out kick Todd this week. A week before, Murrin was 17 seconds behind Hamilton. Coming down from the north is regional champion Lauren Brown, her sister Bethanie won the state title her senior season. Brown ran by herself from 200m in last week. She crossed the line at 19:01, missed her PR by only a second. Still a strong performance for running solo for about 95% of the race. She'll push the chase pack all the way and possibly out run them and get the runner up spot. Also coming down from the north is John Bapst senior, Amanda Boyd. Boyd made her move in the last mile and past Cecilia Morin to take the runner up spot last weekend as she ran to a 19:36. She'll try to run with Liv Palma of Cape Elizabeth, who was just under 20 with a 19:57 last weekend at Twin Brook. If she slows down at the start and doesn't try to go out with Barr again, she'll have a much more successful race. That's the best time Palmas has run on that course. She finished 5th as she was able to hold off a hard charging, Emily Carty from Fryeburg, who was 20:01. The duo from Fryeburg, Carty and Anna Lastra, were separated by Kathryn Miller of York as they went 20:01 and 20:14 to finish 6th and 8th. They need to slow down a little at the beginning as well and they'll be able to have more energy left to make their move on Palma and not be separated by Miller. Miller was 7th with a 20:08, she had a smart race and laid back in the pack for the first mile and then started to make her move. Looking to crack into the top 10 is Cecilia Morin from Waterville. She was 3rd at her regional meet. She likes to take things out hard, but that won't be a good strategy running at Twin Brook. She has some memory of running on this course when she was freshman, hopefully she'll know not to kill that first mile.

Last week we saw quite the upset from Yarmouth, as they beat Greely on their home course 55-74. It wasn't even close. The deciding factor between the two teams was the stronger #4 runner and Yarmouth's #4 finished 15th while Greely's was 23rd. Yarmouth was blessed by the running gods as they were able to recruit Georgia Giese, their new #4 runner. She ran her first race a week before WMC's as she ran a 21:11. This past week she ran to a 21:17. Unless if Greely can improve their #4 runner, Yarmouth will look to win their first state title. Looking to make the podium is Waterville. Watervillie won the northern regional with a 20:54 average. If they can get their #5 runner up more, they could compete with York and Cape. York beat Cape for 3rd going 89-125. They had Cape beat with every runner except for the #1 runner. Cape got a huge race from Kelsey Kennedy last week, the team's #5 all season was the #3 with a 40 second pr. Cape had some illness last week if they are back at full strength they could surprise with a podium finish.
