Junior Katherine Leggat-Barr of Greely was able to defend her Class B state title, and remain undefeated in her career in the postseason as she crossed the line first in the fastest time of the day, 19:11.71

"It wasn't easy, I didn't feel as good as last week" Class B state champion Leggat-Barr said of her race

Leggat-Barr was out front all day long, and felt the effects of the mental strain it takes to be the leader and know everyone else is trying to chase you down.

While no one was able to catch her, it was her teammate that was applying the pressure. Freshman Carolyn Todd continued her excellent campaign as she ran to a runner-up finish, and second fastest time on the day as she crossed the finish in 19:18.51

"She was pushing me the entire way." Leggat-Barr said of her teammate freshman Carolyn Todd

The dynamic duo put on a show as they gapped the rest of the field. After Todd finished it would be another 25 seconds before northern Maine regional champion Lauren Brown finished in third

Leggat-Barr had high praise for her teammate, Todd "We work so well together, we run workouts and races together, she pushes me all the time."

Yarmouth's Anneka Murrin had the best race of her season as she powered home to a fourth place in 19:53.72, as she held off the kick of Anna Lastra of Fryeburg, 19:53.92. Murrin's teammate Abby Hamilton also was under 20 minutes as she placed 6th running, 19:59.46.

Yarmouth behind Murrin's 4th & Hamilton's 6th place won the school's first ever state xc team title. They got big runs from senior Grace Cowles in 14th & Georgia Giese in 18th. Senior Lucy ALexander sealed the title with her 27th place effort. The Clippers final score was 65 holding off Greely by 13.

Coach Bob Morse said of his team "The 2015 YHS Girls XC Team has one very basic quality....'Supportive!' The girls all worked hard, not only at practice, but also at dealing with some injuries, and sickness this season. They supported each other, encouraged each other, and pushed each other to do their 'best!'.

Morse who has been coaching the xc program for 40 plus years said "Winning a state title is always special....but being the first team to win the state title in your sport makes it really SPECIAL!" "Now the girls have their own XC Banner to hang from the rafters n the Gym!"
