It was a good day for Maine athletes at Dartmouth Relays as they took on some of the top competition from New England, New York, New Jersey & Canada at the 47th annual relay meet. On the day there was 2 new state leading marks, while several athletes placed in the top 6 of the respective events. The Scarborough boys placed 11th overall in the team scoring as they scored 15 points. Thornton Academy was the top girls school in 30th with 6 points. Scarborough's Griffin Madden finished as runner-up in the 55m hurdles for the second year in a row. Madden started by winning his trial in 8.01, as he entered the semi's with the second fastest time. In the semi's Madden placed 2nd in his section running 7.88, and most importantly securing himself a spot in the final. In the final the senior who placed second in the Class A state meet a year ago ran his fastest 55m hurdle race of his life, 7.77 to finish as the runner-up. Infinite Tucker of Hunington, NY won the event in 7.51. Madden's time lowers his state leading time down another .10.
Sanford's Peter Hegarty had another strong day on the pole vault runway as the senior jumped 14-0 once again to place 3rd overall. Hegarty had some strong attempts at 14-6 but came up just short. Scarborough's Sam Rusak jumped a season's best 13-6 to place 5th.
Samatha Curran of Thornton Academy threw 38-5 1/4 to place 3rd in the shot put. Curran who had a best of 39-1 3/4 which is the Class A leading mark, and state #2
Orono's Tia Tardy ran in the seed 1 mile against a stacked field. The junior held her own as she positioned herself just behind the leaders, and was rewarded with a new personal best & lowered her state leading mark with a 5:05.55 effort. Katherine Leggat-Barr of Greely won section 2 of the seeded mile as she lead from the gun, her time was 5:15.37 good for 9th fastest overall.
Waterville's Trever Gray didn't have the most consistent day in the shot put circle, but the UCONN bound senior did what he needed to do to advance to the finals as he bombed it out to a new Class B leader 52-0.75 to finish 5th.
Scarborough's Colin Tardiff battled in a physical 800m race, he placed 5th in section 1, and 6th overall. Tardiff the Class A leader ran 2:02.47. Josh Richards of Westbrook had a strong run in section 2 as he hit a personal best 2:03.83 to finish 9th overall.
Yarmouth's Emma Egan cleared 5-2 in the high jump that was good enough to finish in a tied for 6th place. Egan who is state #2 has a best of 5-6 on the season.
Emily Turner of Cheverus won section 2 of the girls 400m in a seasonal best 60.62, the mark now ranks her Class A & State #2 clocking.
Marshwood's Burt Dow placed 3rd in section 2 of the 400m, clocking an indoor personal best of 52.49, that mark moves him to Class A #3, and state #4
Waterville's Alison Linscott jumped a personal best 33-11 3/4 in the triple jump to place 6th, the mark moves her to state #7, and ranks her 3rd in Class B.
