He's back, Guiliani will compete at USATF ME Championship on Sunday

Senior Daniel Guiliani who only threw in one meet this winter, will return to the shot put circle on Sunday at the Maine USATF Championship meet at the University of Maine at Orono. Guiliani had to miss the rest of the indoor season after competing in the opening season meet due to an flexor strain in his elbow.

During his injury Daniel didn't just sit around on the couch, he continue to push himself. "I couldn't do any upper body stuff so I focused on my technique, a lot of lower body workouts and plyometric stuff. I'm surprised to be throwing as well as I am, but at the same time I'm not. The speed and plyometric stuff really turned me into a different athlete. I feel a lot different in the ring, and I feel like a better all round athlete." He said of the work he did during his injury

Guiliani was cleared to resume throwing on February 18th, and he didn't wait long to get a shot put in his hand and throw. Check out the video below. It was difficult for Guiliani to miss almost all of his senior indoor season. "To be honest, I struggled with it a lot. All these years I've worked toward throwing at the highest levels, and after my junior year and all the national attention I had, I was prepared for maybe the biggest season of my life, but one injury in the throwing arm and it all ends, and I won't be able to get that season back. But I'll have one more meet indoors, and a whole season in outdoor to chase what I'm aiming for, and that's 70 feet."

Guiliani who holds the Maine all-time indoor & outdoor best in the shot put, will be competing one last time indoor in hopes of breaking his 62-4 personal best which he set last year in the same circle he'll be competing in on Sunday. "At the USATF meet I'm looking to do many things, and all are very possible depending on how I'm feeling that day. First thing is..I want to have fun. I spent all winter watching meets, and missing out, and I have this one last meet for indoors, and I just want to enjoy my last 4 throws of indoors. The state all-time best is 62-4, that's my mark from this meet last year, and I should have that no problem. The New England all time best is 63-11, which is also something I'd like to break. Lastly, the US top 3 throws are 72-9, 66-9 and 64-7. With what I'm preparing for this Sunday, I can put myself right in the mix, and with a PR of 66-9.25 or higher, I could find myself being a top 2 thrower in the country. Those are all possible things, and I won't put extra pressure on myself, I'm just gonna go for it. But one thing is for sure, I'm going to have a blast competing again."

He has been limited himself to 6 throws a day so he doesn't re-injure his elbow, here is a series of throws he took on Monday of this week inside of South Portland HS.

Throw 1 65-7

Throw 2 Foul

Throw 3 68-2

Throw 5 69-11 1/4

Throw 6 66-2
