Isaiah Harris becomes fastest ever Mainer at 800m

Running in the Florida Relays 800m race on Friday afternoon, former Lewiston High School standout & current Penn State Nittany Lion Isaiah Harris ran 1:46.05 to finish third. The time was a new personal best for the true freshman, and the second fastest time in the NCAA currently. His time also moved him to 4th fastest in Penn State history

Harris who moved up the all-time list for Maine runners this winter to #2 with his 1:46.24, leapfrogged top ranked Erik Nedeau 1:46.19 to take over the top spot with his effort fro Friday. Nedeau is regarded as best middle distance runner in state history, he was a five time NCAA D1 All-American at 800/1500m, and went on to have a strong professional career that saw him win bronze in the 1995 world indoor 1500m.

The 1:46.05 puts Harris in a strong position to qualify for the US Olympic Track & Field Trials, he just needs to run 1:46 or faster. Not bad for a freshman who entered college with a personal best 1:49.63

For good measure Harris ran a leg on the winning 4x800m relay on Saturday as the Nittany Lions ran 7:19.98, which currently is the second fastest time in the NCAA.
