Orono sweeps Class C State Outdoor Track Titles

The Orono girls dominated the competition as they cruised to their 5th consecutive Class C Outdoor Track & Field title. They amassed 168.75 points an impressive 106 3/4 points better than runner-up Sacopee Valley. George Stevens Academy placed third with 43.75.

On the boys side the scores were much closer but in the end the Red Riots of Orono prevailed 78.60 to 63 over Washington Academy. Lisbon was third with 48 points.

There were six total state Class C record set, three on each side. For the boys Jake Koffman of Orono threw 189-9 to shatter the former record of 169-1, which was set back in 1980 by Justin Whitney of Winthrop. His mark also broke his own Maine all-time best mark of 186-3 he set earlier this spring. Traip Academy's Evan Porter lowered the 300m hurdles state records by .02 as he ran 39.57 to win the title. While the Orono boys opened the action on the track with a record in the 4x800 as the team of Jacob Fandel, Matt Keresey, Jonathan Steelman & Tristan Butterfield ran 8:17.36 breaking the record of 8:21.81 set by NYA in 2010.

On the girls side Orono set a pair of relay records. The 4x100 team of Allison Pickering, Lauren Stoops, Camille Kohtala, & Katie O'Brien ran 50.18, this better the mark set by the 1987 Orono team. In the 4x400, the team of Tia Tardy, Kassidy Dill, Becky Lopez-Anido & Lauren Stoops ran 4:05.0, this also better last year's Orono team that ran 4:08.09. In the 800m, Tia Tardy bettered her year old record of 2:16.34, with her winning time of 2:13.03
