Rewind to 2006, The York girls won the Class B girls state outdoor title. The Waterville juggernaut won the next 9 titles, but the Wildcats stopped the dynasty as they took home the top spot with a 68-60 victory over Belfast. Greely was a strong third with 57 with Yarmouth finishing 4th with 47 points. Gray New Gloucester scored 42.5 to round out the top 5.

York has just one individual champion as senior Katherine Bullock won the long jump with a leap of 17-2. She would add a fourth place finish in the triple jump.

York won a pair of relays as the 4x800 opened the meet with the state #2 time of 9:51.62, and they closed the meet out with another win in the 4x400m relay clocked 4:11.70.

The throwers helped York as well as Reilly Smedley was the runner-up in the javelin with a toss of 106-6, and in the shot put Mary Freeman added six points with her third place throw of 34-6 1/2.

Senior Melissa Kessel of Camden Hills won a pair of hurdle events as she clocked 15.56 to edge Erin Martin of Nokomis 15.66. In the 300m hurdles Kessel won by over a second as she stopped the clock at 47.66.

Lincoln Academy sophomore Tahlia Mullen had a strong day as she ran 58.94 to win the 400m, she came back later to cross the line first in the 200m with a personal best 26.11

The Yarmouth distance team excelled as sophomore Anneka Murrin won a exciting 1600m as she set a new personal best of 5:12.59, Murrin would come back to finish as the runner-up in the 800m. Abby Hamilton added a second distance win for the Clippers as she dominated the 3200m, crossing the finish line first in 11:12.14, the time was a new personal best.

Belfast's Cassidy Hill set a state leading mark of 12.56 as she won the 100m dash title, she also ran a leg on the victorious 4x100m relay for the Lions.

Yarmouth senior Emma Egan was the high jump champion as she cleared a best of 5-4. While Kylie Nelson of Belfast was the pole vault winner with a 9-6 clearance.

Old Town sophomore Oliviah Damboise took the triple jump with a leap of 34-8 1/4. Over in the throws it was senior Clara Phillips of Gray New Gloucester who stood atop the podium with her winning throw of 36-11 1/2. Foxcroft junior Emily Mikoud won the discus with a toss of 118-9 to win by over 13ft. While Jenni Nadeau of Mt View threw a personal best 113-3 top take the top spot in the javelin.

Repeat Champions

Greely senior Siana Emery broke the 8 minute barrier for the second time in her career as she completed the 1600m in 7:59.80 to win the title for the second year in a row.

Erskine Academy sophomore Kaylee Porter repeated as the 800m state champion as she won in 2:18.11, over six seconds faster than her winning effort from a year ago.

Boys

Foxcroft Academy who competed in Class C a year ago, showed they belong in Class B as they captured the state title with a 71-64 win over defending champion York. Waterville finished third with 58 while Belfast scored 44 for fourth. Leavitt rounded out the top five with 40 points.

The Ponies were led by senior standout Judson Smith who scored 36 points. Smith who entered the 110m hurdle final with the second best time of the prelims, stepped up to run 15.35 in the final to take the top spot. Smith added a second individual title when he cleared 6-2 in the high jump. He came up just short in the long jump as he actually matched the winning jump of 20-11 1/4 but lost out to Leavitt's Billy Bedard on the second best jump. Smith added eight more points with his runner-up finish in the triple jump.

Gray New Gloucester senior sprinter Zackery Haskell was the top short sprinter in the meet. Haskell won the 100m dash in a time of 11.25 as he edged Ryan Bender of MDI by .06. In the 200m Haskell clocked a personal best 22.60 as he once again held off a strong challenge from Bender. Haskell also finished as the runner-up in the high jump with a 6-0 clearance.

Belfast all-around athlete Drew Nealey won the pole vault and set a new meet record of 14-7. Nealey would also add a second win as he ran 41.81 in the 300m Hurdles. Nealey added 8 more points as he finished as the runner-up in the 110m hurdles.

Yarmouth sophomore distance ace Luke Laverdiere won a pair of titles as he claimed the 1600m in a personal best 4:21.94, the fastest time in the state this spring. Laverdiere doubled back to run 2:01.34 to take the 800m. His teammate Tahj Garvey clocked 50.64 to win the 400m.

Freeport senior Chandler Vincent ran away with the 3200m as he stopped the clock at 9:36.98. Earlier he placed second to Laverdiere in the 1600m.

Winslow's Jake Warn won the triple jump state title with a jump of 42-7, while Trevor Judd of Spruce Mountain took the 1600m racewalk (7:07.74).

York's Caileb Stanley won the javelin state title as he threw 161-10.

Leavitt won the 4x100m relay (45.18), while it Wells who crossed the line first in the 4x400m (3:34.27). Greely opened up the meet with a victory in the 4x800m relay (8:21.95).


Repeat Champions

Waterville thrower Trever Gray repeated his shot put & discus titles. Gray won the shot put with a toss of 49-6 3/4, then took the discus with a heave of 163-8.

Records

Belfast senior Drew Nealey set a state meet record in the pole vault when he cleared 14-7 to break 25 year old record of 14-6 3/4 set by Ryan Werner.
