Breton sets course record, Carty rolls at Lake Region Invitational

Want to open your season with an easy victory?

Try the Emily Carty method, "I was trying to do 40 miles a week every week this summer."

The summer training clearly showed on Saturday at Lake Region as the junior excelled despite the high humidity as she cruised to victory covering the 2.8 mile course in 18:36 to win by 37 seconds.

A year ago Carty was the runner-up clocking 18:44 on the same course.

Behind Carty there was a great race between two star freshman, Quincey Lyden of Westbrook & Hailey Applebee of Windham. Lyden & Applebee ran close to each other throughout the race with Lyden able to pull away in the end.

Lyden finished with a time of 19:13, while Applebee finished 7 seconds later on 19:20.

"I definitely think hearing her footsteps help me, I wanted to stay ahead." Lyden said of Applebee's presence in the race.

St Dominic Academy showed they will be a team to watch in Class C this fall as they had the next three finishers. Caroline Castonguay started the parade in 4th place as she kicked her way to line, she was followed by Ella Brown & Alexandra Hammerton.

The team race was close just like the boys, but in the end it was Westbrook capturing the team title for the second year in a row with a 46-48 margin over St Dominic Academy.
