Winthrop's Jacob Hickey doesn't usually wear a watch when he's racing but he just might start doing it all the time now.
The senior decided to wear a watch at Saturday's MVC XC Championship meet held at the University of Maine at Augusta course because he thought he would be running alone.
"I ran with a watch, so I could keep track of my splits." Hickey said after the race "It worked pretty well."
Hickey looked like a fine tuned metronome as he glided over the trails en route to a 1:46 victory. Hickey's winning time was 16:35.5, the 4th fastest time in meet history.
Hickey's strategy was to get out hard, "It was good, I went out hard, 5 minutes for the first mile, then focused on running the downhills."
