Greely sweeps Class B Southern Regional team titles, Laverdiere & Hamilton cruise to individual titles

With the regional meet being postponed until this week that meant the top runners for top ranked Greely & Yarmouth hadn't raced hard for 3 weeks.

Abby Hamilton took the lead at the beginning and didn't look back, "I didn't like not racing for 3 or 4 weeks, I like to race every week" Hamilton said.

 Hamilton didn't show any rust as the senior went to the front early, and never looked back. Hamilton went on to win the Southern Maine Regional title in the fastest time of the day, 18:53.44.

"The plan for today was to try to stay behind everyone for the first mile in the lead pack, then make a move at the mile, but I started off in front and I wasn't expecting that so I just decided to stay there." Hamilton said post race

Hamilton's time was the second fastest in Class B regional history at Twin Brook just behind Abby Mace's 18:53.10 at the 2008 meet.

Behind Hamilton Sophomore Carolyn Todd over took teammate Katherine Leggat-Barr in the final mile to finish as the runner-up in 19:16.44, Leggat-Barr crossed in third at 19:20.12.

Yarmouth's Anneka Murrin was the only other girl under 20 minutes as she finished fourth in 19:34.55. Freeport's Lily Horne rounded out the top 5 with a 20:06.50 effort.

Coming into the meet it was expected to be a team battle between Greely & Yarmouth. Those two were clearly the two best teams on the course, but in the end Greely was able to take the team title by 25 points.

The Rangers were paced by the 2-3 finish from Todd & Leggat-Barr with junior Kate Curran coming up big with a 9th place effort. Behind her it was Chloe Smith in 13th followed by Chloe Waldrep in 14th to complete the scoring.

Yarmouth was able to match Greely up front with Hamilton's win, combined with Murrin 4th & Grace Cowles (10th place) but couldn't keep pace at #4 & #5 today.

York placed third with 90 points, they were followed by Maranacook 119 & Cape Elizabeth 126.
