Durgin sets another CR-18:43/ Belanger takes the boys race in 17:22

The boys race at Bonny Eagle started off under damp conditions, as a light rain had been falling most of the afternoon, however at race time it had stopped and the conditions were ideal, except for a little wetness on the grass. Tim Belanger (Jr. Bonny Eagle) sprinted out ahead of the field as the rounded the track and headed out around the athletic fields, a group of Sanford , Portland, & TA closely followed. Belanger kept the pace honest during the first mile, touring it in 5:24 with a pack of TA runners led by Tom Letourneau (Sr. Thornton) coming through in 5:30-5:35 range. Just pass the mile, the runners entered the woods and were out of sight for a couple of minutes, as the re-emerged it was a two man duel at the front between Belanger & Letourneau, who were matching eachother stride for stride as the followed the trail back to the HS. Marc Beauchmin (Sr. Thornton) was next out of the woods, Cole Hutchinson (Portland) & Jacob Gaudreau (Sanford) were just behind as well. Belanger & Letourneau hit two miles in 11:12, dead even, they battled and battled with each taking the lead from eachother, until they hit the track with 200m to go, when Belanger used his speed to pull away for a 17:22 to 17:30 victory. This was Belanger's first ever XC win & Letourneau ran a PR by almost 20 seconds, both excellent efforts. Beauchmin looked strong over the last mile and pulled away from the others behind him to break the tape at 17:45,  Hutchinson hung on to get by Gaudreau for 4th in 17:50, while Gaudreau held off a hard charging Tom Quentin (Jr. Thornton) for 5th in 18:03.

 Girls Recap

The girls race turned into another course record breaking performance for standout freshman Emily Durgin (Bonny Eagle) as she raced through the mile in 5:45, putting 20 seconds on her teammate Lauren Dudley (Jr. Bonny Eagle). Vickie Hewey (Sr. Sanford) & Amber Dostie (So. Bonny Eagle) were about 25 seconds back, coming through in 6:10. After running the wooded section which was in good shape considering the ran that had fallen during the day, Durgin continued to push the accelerate as she cruised through 2 miles in 12:06, continually adding to her lead with every stride. Hewey had moved pass Dudley into 2nd, was 12:51, with Dudley & Dostie also in the top 4. Durgin finished strong as she broke the tape at 18:43, not sure of old course record but I would think this smashed it. Hewey ran a fine race for 2nd, running 19:32, a national ranking performance. Dudley broke 20 minutes as well, with her fine 19:56. Bonny Eagle showed it's strength up front with Dostie coming home next in 20:17, not bad for a #3 runner. TA had the next two runners across the line in Grace Glynn (Jr.) 20:32 & McCarthy 21:05.
