This should be a most interesting blog entry. To lead this off I will say that I have been advised by two highly trained professionals to not think about running this week. Instead I need to find a new obsession to counter-balance it for this week. I am having a tough enough time doing this, especially while I am running. If you know me enough, and can put two and two together, you know that this could be going anywhere. I will touch on my training this week, before moving on to a new topic.

I had a nagging cold for the majority of the past week, which I could tell was killing me a bit more then usual on the workouts and runs. On Monday I did 4 sets of 10 minutes of hard running. It is a work out I would normally enjoy, but wasn’t so fun that particular day. By the end of it I really felt like I was breaking down bad, and was just glad I finished.

The next two days were pretty easy, but I could tell my breathing was pretty messed up. We had a meet at Wells on Thursday. Friday was an easy 40 minutes in the rain. Sunday was 60 minutes in pouring rain. We definitely backed off the workouts a bit, just trying to get me back into tiptop form.

This past week a lot happened as you can probably tell. The nation saw its first debate between its two candidates for leader of the free world, we fell deeper into a financial nightmare, Paul Newman died, and the Red Sox are headed back to the playoffs. Oh, where not to begin.

Paul Newman dieing was definitely sad. Over his lifetime he donated over 250 million dollars to charity, and made some of the best salad dressing ever. You don’t find to many stars anymore that are a class act like Paul Newman was. Instead of starting foundations, most of today’s stars are at parties, adopting kids (this isn’t bad, until it becomes an addiction), and finding another star to get married to for every beach resort and spa they visit.

Early this morning Geb ran a 2:03:57 at the Berlin Marathon. I am astonished.

I thought the first debate between our presidential candidates was interesting. No matter what the biases in the media tell us there was no clear-cut winner. McCain won the foreign policy part, and Obama was the better of the two on the economy. Fortunately for Obama the economy is what is on everybody’s mind right now. He also did a lot better than I expected on foreign policy, which is supposed to be his big weak point.

All in all I feel real sorry for Sarah Palin. If her interview with Katie Couric is any preview of her on the spot speaking ability, she is going to get curb-stomped by Joe Biden. If I was Palin, I would hire the Russian mob to take out Biden the next time she has them over to a BBQ up there in Alaska.

I saw the move Righteous Kill on Saturday, starring Robert De Niro and Al Pachino. I give it 4 out of 5 stars, which in thumbs is converted to 1.5. It was much better then I expected. I kind of thought going into it that the only reason this movie was worth watching was because it had two acting legends in it, but it contained a great storyline and some awesome twists.

Here is where I break the rules and discuss running a little bit. This would be a pretty lame running blog if it didn’t talk about running. I have a no idea what my schedule is going to look like in all honesty. I know we are backing off of my training a bit, to see if that freshens up my body at all. I think if I am feeling good come next meet, I have potential to run a fast race. I need to start running fast soon, with championship season on its way. I feel like my schedule has not played out to my advantage in terms of getting my fair share of the best competition in the WMC, and getting the appropriate amount of chances at running fast times on fast course. Wells looked like a decent chance at doing well, but I blew that by being sick an taking two wrong turns.

Well anyways I have to get started on my project about Coniferous Forests, which is due first block tomorrow. I love my procrastination habit.
