Lufkin break EMITL Shot Put Record throws 59-8, Maine AT #3

Brewer senior Austin Lufkin broke the EMITL indoor track shot put record with his record heave of 59-8 on Saturday, the mark shattered old record by over 4ft, and moves him to #3 AT performer in Maine history.

Senior Austin Lufkin moved his way up the Maine all-time best list in the shot put with his EMITL record breaking throw on Saturday. After opening up his season with a strong 53-9 3/4 in his first meet back on December 17th, he improved to 59-8 with his winning heave on his first attempt on Saturday.

Lufkin said on Monday, "I came out and threw that first throw and wasn't hyped up much after that so I didn't throw that well after, my other two marks were 57 and 56 high." 

Modesty at its best, as the the other two marks were also superior to Tyler Eastman's 12 year old league record of 55-2 3/4.

The magically 60ft barrier is in his sights with a good chunk of the season remaining.

"I was hoping to throw 60 Saturday because I've been right around there in practice recently, I'm hoping to break 60 next week and go from there," Lufkin commented on his record.

The throw ranks him #6 in the country in the event as of 1/9 according to the Milesplit database.

Earlier this year Biddeford senior Matt Brady through 57-1 to move into the top 10 all-time performers in the shot put, he currently ranks 8th after Lufkin's throw.
