KVAC Boys Class A Preview

Defending KVAC champs are once again the team to beat. The Blue Devils have gone undefeated during the KVAC regular season and will look to continue that success again. Brunswick & Mt Blue look like the next best teams, and hard charging Morse team, fresh off a 2nd place finish at the Mt. Blue Relays, looking to break into the top 3. Don't count of Mt. Ararat whose had some strong results, or a solid Hampden Academy team. There will plenty of individual talent on display as well, with several of the top runners in the state matching up; Luke Fontaine, Will Geoghegan, Matt Driscoll, Kelton Cullenberg, & Jason Kaake

 

Lewiston Blue Devils

ME #4

Lewiston comes into the KVAC Championship as the favorite. They are ranked #3 in the most recent MTCCCA poll and have run very well this fall, running undefeated in league meets. They were 3rd at the Fesival of Champions, averaging 17:35 for 5k. They are led by seniors Matt Driscoll & Robbie Leeman. Lewiston is the defending champion.

Brunswick Dragons

ME #7

Brunswick is ranked # in the latest MTCCA poll. They are fresh off a win at the Mt. Blu Relays, they ran well at the Festival of Champions an 8th place showing, despite not having the services of #3 & #4 runners due to the SAT's. This team has beaten all but Lewiston in the regular season. They are led by Juniors Will Geoghegan a threat to win the individual title and Liam Cassidy.

Mt. Blue Cougars

ME #11

Mt. Blue has been ranked in the top 10 teams in the state most of the year. They have run well despite being without two of their top 7 runners the past 3 weeks, including #4 runner, Adam Fissette. They should have both back for the championship. Mt. Blue had a stong perfromance at the FOC, they finished 6th averaging 18:06 fo 5k. The Cougars are led by Junior standout Kelton Cullenberg.

Morse Shipbuilders

ME #12

Morse comes into the KVAC Championship brimming with confidence after their 2nd place showing at last week's Mt. Blue Relays. Morse will be looking to carry the succes at 2 miles over the longer 5k distance. Morse had 3 of the top 14 times at Mt. Blue, and will look for the top three runners of Jason Kaake, Alzono James, & Kory Scarponi to lead the way.

KVAC Boys Class B Preview

The KVAC B Boys title is up for grabs, with a handful of teams capable of coming out on top. Belfast was the top KVAC B school at FOC, finishing ahead of Leavitt, Medomak Valley & Maranacook. Maranacook is coming off a strong showing at the Mt. Blue Relays. The individual title should see some great times, as Erskine's Sam Seekins is the favorite but there are several behind him capable of stepping up to challenge for the win.

Medomak Valley Panthers

Unranked

Medomak Valley comes into the KVAC Championship meet coming off a strong showing in their last meet at Camden, where they had 5 guys under 20 for 5k. Medomak Valley is led by Patrick O'Donnell & Alex Goldrup. At the Festival of Champions they placed 30th with a 19:35 5K average, but #2 runner Goldrup had an off day. Medomak has the runners to contend for the Class B title.

Belfast Lions

Belfast bested all the other contenders at the Festival running on their home course, where they finished 20th with a 19:02 average. They finished behind Maranacook at the Mt. Blue relays but ran without #1 Ryan James. Belfast comes in as a slight favorite to be the top Class B school in the KVAC

Maranacook is coming off a solid performance at the Mt. Blue Relays. They finished 31st at the FOC, with a 19:40 average but were without #1 Justin Greely, add him in and they finish ahead of Leavitt & Medomak two other strong foes.

Leavitt Hornets

Leavitt will look to have success at the KVAC Championship as they did at the Festival of Champions, where they were the 2nd KVAC Class B team, only finishing behind Belfast but ahead of Medomak and Maranacook. Leavitt was 28th at FOC, with a 19:30 5k average. They are led by standout Lauren Turner, who will contend for the individal title as well.
