Western Class A Boys: Heading into the Western Regional, the Scarborough Red Storm are undefeated and the pre-race favorites, but now that Cheverus is back at full strength expect them to challenge. Massabesic is another vey good team that could make a run at the top 2 spots. Thornton Academy comes in looking to duplicate their performance from last year at the regional. It looks like a total of 8 teams will advance to the state championship, so there will be an intense battle between a handful of teams to make it to the dance. Deering, South Portland, Gorham, Sanford, & Bonny Eagle are the teams that should contend for a top 8 spot.

Cheverus Stags |
ME #6 |
Cheverus has run short handed most of the season due to injuries to top 5 runners Jack Terwilliger, Taylor Dundas & Andrew Synder. It appears that they are back to full strength as they have run their full squad in the past two races. In an early season matchup, Scarborough handled Cheverus, but the Stags ran without Taylor Dundas, and Terwilliger & Synder were in their first races back from injury. Cheverus still put together a strong season despite the injuries and looks to challege top ranked Scarborough for the title. Cheverus has the talent & abilty to run with anyone, should make for a great race Top Runners Jack Terwilliger 5k- 16:52 Tim Woods 5k- 17:12 Andrew Synder 5k- 17:13 |
Massabesic Mustangs |

Massabesic has had a solid season in the SMAA, winning almost everytime out with the exception of a meet against Scarborough & Cheverus. The Mustangs have a strong top 5, and are led by Ben Morrison, who is a contender for a top 5 finish. Massabesic should be in the tp 3 teams and easily adavnce to the state meet. Western Maine Class B Boys: Heading into the Western Regional, the Greely Rangers have been the top team all season long. They won the WMC championship two weeks ago and are ranked #2 in the MTCCCA poll. At the WMC, Cape Elizabeth showed it was improving as they finished just 9 points back. This sets up a highly anticpated re-match, can Cape repeat last years regional performance, where they upset Greely? It should be a great arce. Other top ranked teams like Falmouth, York, & Yarmouth will go head-to-head as well, making this probably the most competitive race of the day.

The Capers made big strides in that meet and will look to continue their progression to the top this weekend. They are led by the individual favorite, Matt Rand, who has been unbeatable in the state of Maine this year. Cape is a dangerous team, they know how to run well whe it counts, example last year in the regionals, they surprised everyone with a win, can they do it again? Should be a great race on Saturday. Western Maine Class C Boys: The race for the team title in Western Maine Class C should be a great battle between a handful of teams all capable of winning. Boothbay comes in the favorite fresh off a win at the MVC meet over the many of the the contending teams. Don't count out Winthrop they look to be peaking at the right time, and never count out an experienced team like Lisbon. Hall-Dale's Wade Davis is the pre-race favorite to win the boys individual race
Boothbay |
Unranked |
Boothbay comes into the Western Maine regional as the favorite to capture the title. Last week at the MVC meet they won by 11 points over Winthrop. Boothbay relies on a tight pack on runners, last week their #1-#5 spread was just 25 seconds. They don't have have a front-runner but have more depth than any other team in Class C. Top Runners Nate Schwem 5k-18:10 Matt Forgues 5k- 18:12 Zach Campbell 5k-18:12 |
Winthrop Ramblers |
Unranked |
Winthrop is coming off it's best race of the season, a 2nd place at the MVC Championship meet, just 11 points behind winner Boothbay. Winthrop showed that it can't be counted out, they were led by Pat Romar. Winthrop needs the #4 & #5 runner to improve a couple places each to have a shot at taking down Boothbay. One thing is certain don't count out a past champion. Top Runners Pat Romar 5k- 17:55 Kevin Leavitt 5k- 18:06 Alex Cottrell 5k- 18:18 |

Hall-Dale is coming off it's best performance of the season, a 3rd place finish at the MVC Championship, where they finish ahead of Lisbon. Hall-Dale needs to have someone from their #2-#5 runner break away and move up to have a shot at making the top 2. Either way, the Bulldogs should have no problem punching their ticket to the state meet. Top Runners Wade Davis 5k-16:37 Dylan Sirios 5k- 18:57 Kyle Blanchette 5k-19:00 |
