Training recap:
I was a little worried about my training this week, because I missed two days of practice and didn’t get the chance to run on my own. Everything turned out okay in the meet though. I think I spoke too soon when I said that I liked running the 400, because on Monday when we were all still incredibly sore from the Blackbear Relays the distance team did 400 repeats. That ended up being my only hard speed work that week though, so I really can’t complain. We are so lucky that we live around Acadia National Park, because we take a bus off-campus at least once a week. On Friday we went to Eagle Lake and saw some people ice fishing there, so we decided to run on top of the lake on the ice. It turned out that it wasn’t completely frozen in some places though, so it was a good thing the ice fishermen told us not to go all the way across the lake. Instead we ran along the edges, but at one point my foot fell through and got soaking wet…. From then on we stuck to the trails.

Meet recap:
After doing 800’s and 400’s in the last meet, I was really happy that my coach put me in the mile and the 2 mile. My goal for the mile was to run under 5:30, but I still felt pretty good about the 5:31 that I ended up running. That leaves me more room to keep improving. I was up against Brianne Dunn in both the mile and the 2 mile, and both races were really close until the last couple of laps. I was glad we were both in the same events that day, because I think we ended up pushing each other to run faster. I was most proud of my 2 mile, because I kept an even pace throughout the race until I picked up the pace in the last 3 laps, and I ran the second mile about 3 seconds faster than the first. My overall time was 12:03, which I was also really happy with at this point in the season. One thing I like about indoor is that I have no idea where the 400, 800 or mile splits are on an indoor track, so I pay attention to how I’m feeling and to what my coaches are saying rather than worrying about my splits. On an outdoor track I know exactly how far I’ve gone and exactly how much I have left to run, and I have this habit of looking at my watch after like every 200. I think running indoor is a good way to break me of this habit.
