Greely Girls' Complete Triple Crown, Winslow Boys' Wins First State Title Since 1966

The Greely girls' entered the Class B Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Yarmouth High School looking for the triple crown. They had completed the first two legs with wins during the XC and Indoor season.

The Rangers did it with quality depth as they won two events, but placed in 10 events to tally 67 points to outdistance runner-up York by 8 points.

Senior distance runner Katherine Leggat-Barr who competed during the outdoor season for the first time this spring was the catalyst as she won the 3200m in 11:15.26, while finishing as the runner-up in the 1600 with a 5:04.63.

Sophomore hurdler Morgan Selby ran a state leading and personal best of 45.96 to win the 300m hurdles in a close race with Cape's Darcy Cochran. She added a 5th place finish in the 100m hurdles as well.

Junior Elizabeth Brown came up big in the high jump as she cleared a personal best 5-2, coming into the meet she had jumped 5-0 just once on the season, to finish second overall.

Sophomore Maggie McCormick added 6 key points with her 3rd place performance in the pole vault as she cleared 

While distance runner Carolyn Todd provided 10 points with a 3rd place effort in the 3200m and a 4th place finish in the 1600m.



MDI's Tia Tardy continued her winning ways as she won the 1600m (5:01.14) with her late race kick. She came back to set the Class B State meet record in the 800m with a time of 2:14.76, surpassing the 2:16.50 mark set by Bethanie Brown back in 2013. The record didn't come easy for Tardy as she was pressed the whole way by  Erskine Academy junior Kaylee Porter who ran 2:16.55.

Cape Elizabeth freshman Darcy Cochran was impressive with her state leading 15.14 clocking in the 100m hurdles, her winning time was more than 1 second faster than the runner-up which is unheard of at this level. She added a runner-up finish in the 300m hurdles with an excellent time of 46.03

Belfast jumper Kylie Nelson claimed a pair of titles as the senior won the pole vault with a leap of 10 feet, and took the long jump with a personal best jump of 17-7.

In the throws Sarah Cox of Waterville and Emily Mikoud of Foxcroft were the stand out throwers. Cox took the shot put with a heave of 38-7 1/4, the mark was a personal best by over two feet. Mikoud finished second in the shot. The two reversed positions in the discus as Mikoud took top honors with a throw of 119-1, Cox threw 110-0 for second.

Gray New Gloucester sophomore Madison Post won the 200m with a time of 26.03, she also anchored the winning 4x100 relay.

Lincoln Academy's Tahlia Mullen repeated as state champion in the 400m as she clocked 58.93.
