Training Recap: This week marked the end of our first semester in school, so we had final exams and half days on Thursday and Friday. Altogether it was a pretty stressful week, but our practices were a little more exciting to make up for it. On Wednesday we were supposed to do a 30 minute run but the snow was really deep, so instead we got a bunch of snowshoes and went on a snowshoeing scavenger hunt in the woods. It was supposed to be boys vs. girls, but after about 5 minutes the boys wimped out because of the cold and went inside to run. It ended up being quite a workout, because it was basically like doing high-knees drills the whole time. We found everything on our list except for the porcupine that lives on one of the trails in the woods. Apparently porcupines don’t hibernate though, so I have no idea where he could have been…
Meet Recap: This week I ran the 800 and the 2mile, so I had a lot of time to kill before the 800. I was kindof nervous and excited to run it fresh, because I wanted to post a good time, and also Megan Curtis from Orono was supposed to be in my heat. I had planned to just go off her pace for the first couple of laps, but after the gun went off I ended up in a good position before the first turn, so I just went with it. I had no idea if the pace I was setting was too fast (it definitely felt like it) but somehow I held it and ran a 2:26, which ended up being a PR, which also meant I broke my school record! My older sister Marya, who held the senior class record in the 800 before now was in Oregon and was checking the live results from the meet, and she was really excited for me when she found out. She still claims that she taught me everything I know… In the 2 mile I was supposed to set a certain pace for one of my teammates for the first mile or so and then to push the last few laps. I wasn’t really that worried about my time, but I was focusing more on running even splits, which I think I was able to do for the most part. My overall time ended up being 12:18, and I ran a negative split for the second mile, so I was happy with that. I just can’t believe next week is the last regular season meet! This season has gone by way too fast.
