Scarborough Girls/ Bonny Eagle Boys tops in SMAA Championships

Boys Sr. 600

It was a highly anticipated race between Sam Chick (Scarborough), Cam Stevens (Gorham), & Joey Collins (Bonny Eagle). Chick came in with the top seed time and was also the defending champion in the event. Stevens, one of the top 400m runners in the state the past couple of years, has ventured into the longer races this winter, had run just a few tenths slower than Chick. Collins, the runner-up in the Jr 600 last winter as a freshman, came in the 3rd seed. Stevens led from the gun, with Collins in 2nd and Chick sitting in 3rd, the order remained the same for 3 laps, as just before the entered the home stretch turn, Chick got by Collins on the outside. Chick made his move in front of the Scarborough fans on back stretch and powered home for the victory, running a fast 1:18.6. Stevens ran a fine 1:20.2 for 2nd, with Collins nabbing a seasonal best 1:21.5 for 3rd.
