In her own words: Malaika Pasch - On the Comeback Trail

Hi everyone!

This is Malaika, I am heading into my junior year at Falmouth High School, and am excited to be blogging for MileSplit this fall!

I hope everyone's summer training and first few weeks of cross country have been going well.

Truthfully, my summer training was far from ideal. At the end of this past outdoor track season, I suffered a stress fracture to my left tibia. The first few weeks of the summer were spent in a cast and a boot and the rest of the break, originally filled with plans of workouts with my team and runs out on the trails, was confined to the bike and the pool. In addition to these workouts, I spent many hours in physical therapy and working on strength training in order to prevent future injury. The whole process was definitely one of the hardest I have experienced in my running career. Going from my routine of running everyday and then having my entire summer running plan disappear in just a matter of days was devastating.

I returned to running around three weeks ago after a two and half month hiatus. Getting back to training with my teammates was amazing after an extremely frustrating summer. Though I am not back racing yet, I should be (hopefully!) in the next few weeks. I love watching everyone race, cheering and supporting, but am so excited to get back on that starting line with my team. Thank you to everyone at OA and Jorma, Mr. Paul, and Ms. White, and of course, my team, for all of their guidance and support.

It's exciting seeing everyone racing again and, from what I've seen, the runners across the state are already looking so impressive. Good luck with everyone's upcoming races! I looking forward to getting back out on the trails with everyone soon!
