Based on seasonal best 5k's the Trojans of Mt Desert Island should run away with the Class B Northern Maine team title, but hardware in October isn't based on past results it's based on what have you done lately.

MDI didn't have have their top two harriers, Nick Reznick & Thorin Smith, along with fifth runner Calvin Partin at PVC's last week so there fourth place finish is a bit misnomer.

If healthy added those quality runners back into the lineup makes the Trojans tough to beat.

Hermon pulled off the win at PVCs by two points over Caribou last weekend, and what makes it more impressive is that the Vikings finished 1-2-3. Hermon didn't have any front runners but placed 8-9-12-13-14 which was enough for the conference title.

Those two teams figure to be battling each other for the Regional title if MDI isn't healthy or the runner-up plaque regardless. It appears Caribou didn't have their fourth fastest runner John O'meara in action last week.

Waterville will join the fray, a week ago they were the third ranked team in KVAC Class B. They figure to be close with the likes of Ellsworth, & Belfast

Looking at that final team spot for states, Erskine Academy, Presque Isle & John Bapst are in the mix.

Individually this race should be solid at the front. Waterville's Nick Dall has taken things slow this season in his battle back from injuries that derailed him in the spring. The defending regional champion was pleased with his effort at the KVAC championship last week where he was the Class B runner-up clocking 17:52. Dall has the fastest personal best in the field, so expect him to be at the front on Saturday.

Looking to upend the defending champion is the PVC champion Dylan Marrero of Caribou, Marrero won the conference title by 16 seconds a week ago, and ran very well on the Belfast at FOC where he registered a lifetime best 16:58.

MDI's Thorin Smith has had a strong fall, and has the fastest 5k in the field with his 16:52 he ran at Central, he ran a 17:02 at FOC. This is Smith's first xc season, and he has performed at a high level, and is a strong contender for the individual title on Saturday.

Smith's teammate Nick Reznick is another threat for a top finish at regionals. Reznick has a 17:06 5k to his name this fall, but hasn't run in two weeks. He finished fifth last year.

PVC runner-up Evan Desmond is a top five contender, Desmond has run 17:11 this fall.
