Masters & Schneider Hit Fast Times at Payton Jordan


Riley Masters of Nike returned to the track at the Payton Jordan Invitational on Thursday evening. Masters now based out of Boulder, Colorado showed the altitude training has been paying off as he dipped under his previous personal best in the 5k of 13:17.97 with his runner-up 13:16.97 performance. Masters used a big kick finishing the last 400m in 55.5 as he finished just .005 behind race winner Henrik Ingebrigsten.

The time moved Masters up to third best in Maine native history as he jumped ahead of Will Geoghegan.

In the women's 5k race Under Armour sponsored Rachel Schneider set a new Maine all-time native best with her runner-up 15:15.88 performance. The mark lowered personal best by 18 seconds. Schneider who is based out Flagstaff, Arizona is off to a great outdoor season having already set a personal best 2:01.98 for 800m at the beginning of April, and last weekend ran 9:31.89 for 2 mile last weekend at the Drake Relays as she finished second to Jenny Simpson's american record effort.

Also competing at Payton Jordan was Emily Durgin of New Balance Boston in the 10k. Durgin shattered her previous personal best by 50 seconds as she clocked 32:59.75 to finish 10th. The mark moved Durgin to number two in Maine all-time native history.

In the men's 10k race Zap Fitness's Matt McClintock finished 21st clocking 29:07.88
