In the case of Mattanawcook Academy junior Cayden Spencer-Thompson, he slowly continues to round into championship form as the PVC regular season winds down.
With one more week of regular-season action remaining, Spencer-Thompson is clearly head and shoulders above the rest in the long and triple jumps, and he showed it again Friday afternoon in a PVC meet at Foxcroft Academy.
The Lynx junior picked up two individual wins - both in his signature events - while showcasing his versatility by placing third in the 100 dash.
Spencer-Thompson posted marks of 22-5.50 in the long jump and 47-2 in the triple jump. Both were under his seasonal bests, but his best is yet to come.
Joining MA at Oakes Field were host Foxcroft, Greenville, Central, Dexter, Hermon, Piscataquis and Penobscot Valley.
Among the other stars in the boys' competition was James Petersen of Hermon, who was a double-winner in the 100 (11.78) and 200 dashes (23.48).
Greenville's Devin Boone also picked up a pair of victories, uncorking winning throws of 127-4 in the discus and 41-7.25 in the shot put.
The throwing events were swept by the Lakers, with Jack Morehouse unleashing a winning heave of 114 feet even in the javelin.
The boys meet's other double-winner was Hermon's Kyle Byram in the 1600 and 3200.
In the girls meet, Mattanawcook's Lauren Morrison completed a distance trifecta, a rare regular season output for a distance runner, sweeping the 1600, 800 and 3200.
Another multi-event winner was Danielle Cummings of Dexter, who clocked in at 13.98 seconds in the 100 dash and posted a mark of 14-8.50 in the long jump.
Cummings was also second in the high jump.
Maija Overturf of Central was the other multi-event winner (54.33 in the 300 hurdles, 32-9.50 in the triple jump).
