Championship season officially got underway for the state's Aroostook County teams at Caribou High School on Thursday.
It was the host Vikings that wound up starting the three-week championship season on strong notes, as Caribou captured both the girls' and boys' team titles.
The girls wound up with 192 points, while arch rival Presque Isle was second with 112.50.
Rounding out the top five were the Maine School of Science and Mathematics of Limestone (77), Greater Houlton Christian Academy (48) and Fort Kent (45.50).
Alexis Rodriguez picked up a pair of wins for Caribou, claiming the 1,600 (5:38.48) and 800 (2:33.50).
Rodriguez also earned a third-place effort in the high jump, in which Paige Espling spearheaded a 1-3-4 Vikings' finish with a 5-foot jump.
Monica McLaughlin, Hope Shea and Edie Shea went 1-2-5 in the javelin for Caribou, with McLaughlin's winning heave measuring at 124-1.
The Vikes also went 1-3-4 in the 100 hurdles, with JoJo Fields leading the way with a 17.98 finish.
Willow Whitten was Caribou's other double-winner, taking the 300 hurdles and the pole vault.
Grace Graham and Bridget Hill went 1-2 in the 3,200 for Greater Houlton Christian, with Graham posting a solid effort of 12:39.01. Gabby Martin and Jacalyn Pelletier placed 1-2 for Fort Kent in the triple jump, with Martin putting down a mark of 30-6.
The Caribou boys tallied 232 points, winning comfortably, with Presque Isle scoring 168.
Rounding out the top five were MSSM (58), Fort Kent (30) and GHCA (25).
Evan Desmond picked up three victories and a second in the distance races to pace Caribou's winning efforts.
Desmond broke the tape in 4:49.86 in the 1,600, 2:11.44 in the 800, 8:52.96 in the 1,600 race walk and was second in the 3,200, which was won by Joel Bond of Hodgdon.
Meet bragging rights individually went to Presque Isle's Trace Cyr, who swept the sprints.
Cyr clocked in at 11.92 in the 100, 54.10 in the 400 and 24.41.
Caribou's other individual winners were Evan Michaud in the pole vault (11-6) and Davis Levesque in the javelin (137-11).
The Vikings will host next weekend's PVC Small School championship meet.
