Brewer Girls The Best in Class B

A year ago the Brewer girls had a shot to win the Class B state title but came up a little more than eight points out of first to Greely and had to settle for the runner-up plaque.
On Saturday the Witches entered as the team favorite as they had scorers in the field, the hurdles and distance events. They showed they learned from a year ago and had what it took to take the top spot this winter.
"We went really hard at conference a year ago, and we're tired for state, we adjusted this year." Brewer head coach Dan Juilli commented.
Brewer scored 71 to best runner-up York by eight points to win its first Class B title, and first state title since 1999.
The Witches had two individual victories on the day. Junior Sophia Inman cleared 5-2 to capture the high jump while senior Kaitlyn Helfen took the pole vault jumping 9-6. Helfen had a jump off with York's Phoebe Slovenski eventually winning the competition when she cleared 9-3.
Sophomore Morgan Honey provided twenty key points as she was the runner-up in the 200m (27.56), and placed third in the 55m hurdles (8.85) & triple jump (34-3 3/4)
Distance runner Olivia Mosca was strong for Brewer placing second in the mile 5:33.71, and third in the 2 mile (12:06.34). While senior Hannah Hopkins chipped in with a fourth place finish in hurdles (9.12) & triple jump (34-3 1/2)
York got an excellent day out of junior Hayley Smith who dominated the 200m in a personal best 26.78. Smith anchored the winning 4x200m relay for the Wildcats, plus added another personal best 8.84 in the hurdles to finish second.
The top individual scorer in the meet was senior Cymeria Robshaw of Penquis who blew everyone away in the 55m dash in a time of 7.33. She would add a personal best jump of 36-1 3/4 to win the triple jump. She started her day off with a runner-up finish in the long jump with a personal best 18-3 3/4.
Cape Elizabeth junior Darcy Cochran won the 55m hurdle title for the third year in a row and she did it with a personal best 8.41. Her time moves her to third best performer in state indoor history. Cochran doubled back in the 55m with another personal best 7.63, before ending her day with another second place personal best effort in the triple jump (34-9 1/4). This was just the fourth time in her career she has compete in the triple.
Senior Camille Kohtala of Orono won a pair of events with a leap a of 18-4 3/4 in the long jump and a time of 61.59 in the 400m. The 400m title was her second consecutive in the event.
Marin Provencher of Greely won the mile 5:32.44, while her teammate Carolyn Todd took the 2 mile crown in a time of 12:02.46. While Zoe Olson of MDI stormed away from the field in the 800m winning in 2:27.94, she also anchored the Trojans to the win in the 4x800 (10:26.67).
In the shot put Old Town senior Emma Hargreaves upset defending champion Sarah Cox of Waterville as she threw 38-0 1/4 on her final throw.
