Montano & Snyder Earn All-American at NBIN Day 2

Travis Snyder had a long day he started the pentathlon hurdles at 8am in the morning, and competed in four of the five events. He opted not to finish the pentathlon 1000 meters as it was at the same time as the championship pole vault and without the chance for a podium finish in pentathlon was the right decision.

Despite having four events in his legs, and after two misses at his opening height of 15-3 3/4 the University of Connecticut bound senior got over the bar and had new life. Snyder took advantage of the opportunity as he cleared 15-9 3/4 & 16-1 3/4 on his first attempt.

The 16-1 3/4 clearance gave him 6th overall after he just missed his third attempt at 16-5 1/2.


Later over in the shot put circle Snyder who cheer on his teammate Jason Montano. Montano the Class A champion opened with a solid 61-1 1/2 to ensure himself a spot in the finals. He entered the finals in third place by 1/4 of an inch, and responded with a 61-7 effort to give himself some breathing room. On his final attempt he had his best throw of the competition 62-8 1/2 to secure third place and his first All-American finish.

Scarborough's Jarett Flaker competed in the championship 400m. Flaker the state record holder in the event clocked his second best time of his career, 49.20, as he finished second in section four. Overall he placed 13th out of 35.

In the championship long jump Cayden Spencer-Thompson jumped 22-6 1/2 to finish 20th. On the girls side Class B champion Camille Kohtala jumped 16-11 1/2 to finish 40th in the championship long jump.

Lucas Judice of Thornton Academy placed 12th in the 1 mile racewalk with a time of 8:31.44. While Izabelle Trefts of Old Town was 17th in the girls race in a time of 8:21.69.

In the freshman 400m Jayden Flaker posted the top time from Maine with his 54.29 to finish 48th, while Gorham's Andrew Farr finished 57th in 56.14 after he stumbled on the rail in lane 1 on the first lap.
