Kelton Cullenberg and Melody Lam each set course records and the Mt. Blue boys and girls teams each placed 6 runners in the top 9 to gain team victories in a 4-way meet at Mt. Blue on Tuesday.
The girls race saw Lam and newcomer Meaghan Collier of Messalonskee take it through the first mile in 6:58. Collier then took a brief lead before Lam turned it on and opened up a 36 second margin at the two mile (14:12) and cruised to victory lowering her own course record from 22:39 to 21:45. Collier showed that she belongs in the discussion of top runners hanging on for 2nd place with Addie Cullenberg finishing 3rd before two more new runners, Rhiannon LaPlante of Skowhegan and Louisa Stancioff grabbed the next two spots. Lawrence's Sarah Fuller took 6th place, but the Cougars wrapped up the meet with Emily Reed, Gwen Beacham, and Amy Hilton finishing within an 8 second span in spots 7-9.
In the boys race, Cullenberg sprinted to an early lead going through the mile in 5:21 and the two mile in 11:11 to better Eric Marceau's 2007 course record of 17:58 with a time of 17:17. Lawrence's Sebastian Peters and Messalonskee;s Harlow Ladd battled it out over the first two miles for 2nd place with Peters eventually pulling away. Mt. Blue's Alex Luchini eventually caught Ladd . Mt. Blue's Brody Hines grabbed 5th followed by Skowhegan's top runner Travis Goodwin. Mt. Blue's Richie Brooks, Kris Nadeau, Eli Davis, and Jonah Jones took the rest of the top 10 positions to capture the team victory.
